PORT Adelaide chief executive Keith Thomas is confident uncontracted vice-captain Ollie Wines’ signature is a formality as Victorian clubs have expressed interest in luring him home.

It comes as the club traded aggressively in the off-season with no fears over later losing players to the go-home factor.

Thomas said the club’s culture make players think of Port as their club of choice.

“I’ve got no anxiety at all about our playing list and where the contracts are for any of them, to be honest,” Thomas said. “And that’s really going to the point about that I think they’re happy.

“I think they’re very focused, they’re in a good program that’s well run. They’re well supported. We had a parents function last night and the extended club feel is positive.

“It (Wines’s contract) will be sorted out. I don’t know what the timeline is and I’m not particularly concerned. I’m sure it will be OK.”

The confidence in Wines’ future is in the vein of the club’s success in being able to attract big names from interstate to the club, such as Paddy Ryder and Charlie Dixon in previous seasons and Tom Rockliff, Steven Motlop and Jack Watts ahead of this season.

“We’ve been quite successful over the years in being able to trade in players and when they arrive they generally want to stay,” Thomas said. “I think that’s pretty good indicator of the culture that the players have built.

“That was present and obvious when I first got here, in 2012, when we were in a fair bit of trouble.

“One thing we did have was a really, really tight playing group that was led by Travis (Boak) and the leaders of the group.

“We seem to be able to bring players in who get accepted and embraced.

“I think that’s the hallmark of a settled club.”

Port Adelaide on Saturday opened its doors to its members, who paid to spend the day listening to coaches and club leaders about the inner workings of the club before the annual intraclub match.

Coach Ken Hinkley opened proceedings with an address in the morning, in which he singled out forcing turnovers as a cornerstone of the Power’s game plan.
