Port Adelaide vice-captain Ollie Wines’ wretched run with injury has continued with the midfielder to miss the start of the AFL season after shoulder surgery on Monday night.
Wines dislocated his left shoulder at training last week in what the club described as a routine contest and he will miss “the first few rounds” of the regular season.

It is the opposite shoulder to the one he had operated on 12 months ago when he dislocated his right shoulder while waterskiing which sparked furious debate about extra-curricular activities for AFL players.
But he has now had multiple surgeries on his left shoulder after he dislocated it against St Kilda in Round 18, 2015, and which ended his season.
The 25-year-old played just 12 games last season after three separate injuries starting with the waterskiing accident over summer and then a broken leg and thumb on the field.
He endured a tumultuous off-season when his name was linked to a potential trade to Carlton – which both his management and the club firmly denied – and in December the club dumped him as co-captain after just one year in favour of Tom Jonas as solo skipper after a backlash from fans.
Port Adelaide’s head of medical services Tim O’Leary described Wines’ most recent injury as “one of those unfortunate incidents that can happen in football”.
“After seeking advice, surgery was recommended as the best course of action and while the surgery was a success, it will interrupt his start to the season,” O’Leary said.
The Power opens its pre-season games against Brisbane at the Moreton Bay Sports Complex on February 23 and hosts the Western Bulldogs in Whyalla on March 7.
