KARL Amon is yet to be offered a new Port Adelaide contract but Ken Hinkley is confident the Power’s most improved player will remain at Alberton.
After a football “year from hell” in 2018, which led to Amon seeking a trade back home in October, the 23-year-old has had a career best year in 2019 and was the Power’s best against Richmond at the MCG on Saturday — finishing with 28 disposals, five marks and two goals.
Now rated “elite”, one of only four wingmen in the competition, by Champion Data Amon’s contract expires at the end of the year but he is yet to be formally offered a contract by Port.
However, Hinkley said he was not worried about whether he could lose his team’s most improved player despite Amon wanting to return back to Victoria less than 12 months ago.
“I think Karl will be a part of Port Adelaide going forward no doubt, I think Karl has really enjoyed his last 12 months,” Hinkley said on SEN.
“He has never not loved playing for Port Adelaide.
“I think right now he knows and he appreciates that he is playing great footy.
“Without speaking out of school Karl has just bought a house in Adelaide so that bodes well for us.
“That doesn’t mean he is a lock but we would love to keep him.”
Earlier this month Amon told The Advertiser he was keen to stay at the club.
“I love being here and I think we’re working towards something and we can go pretty far,” he said.
Forward Sam Gray is another out of contract at the end of the year, and Hinkley said he was another he hoped would resign.
“Sam Gray is a valuable part of the team,” he said.
