JACK Watts remains an outside chance of joining former Melbourne teammate Jack Trengove for his first game in Port Adelaide colours against Carlton on Saturday.

Watts, dropped after Port’s Round 12 win against Richmond, flew to Melbourne on Friday morning as a Power emergency.

Nine-game forward Todd Marshall, 19, had a shoulder heavily strapped after Port’s 10-point win against the Demons last Friday night and Watts would be the ideal replacement if required.

If Watts is a late call-up, Port assistant coach Nathan Bassett said the forward would play for Port Adelaide Magpies against Norwood on Sunday.

“He is the travelling emergency at this stage, we always take one maybe two with us,” said Bassett.

“Jack (would) come back and then play for the Magpies.”

Trengove, replacing Darcy Byrne-Jones who was demoted after missing a team meeting, will notch his first match since last July for the Demons against North Melbourne in Hobart.

The former Demons skipper could be used in defence or midfield, noted Bassett, in a good news return after a career sabotaged by chronic foot injuries.

“Everyone is barracking for him and want to see him do well. This week we get an opportunity to cheer for him and me support to the best of his ability,” said Bassett of Trengove, who has been restricted to 86 games over nine seasons.

Port is targeting a fourth straight win that could snare a top-four berth but has All-Australian rebound defender Tom Jonas (hamstring) and Byrne-Jones, missing from his unheralded back line.

“You keep playing the same way no matter who you are playing against, we want to keep winning,” Bassett said.

Carlton has been bolstered by captain Marc Murphy, pacy Jarrod Pickett, key forward Levi Casboult, midfielder Nick Graham and ruckman Andrew Phillips.

Ruckman Matthew Kreuzer (ankle), Lachie Plowman (knee), Dale Thomas (suspension), Lochie O’Brien (managed) and former Power player Cameron O’Shea are out of the team that lost to Collingwood on Sunday.
