Port Adelaide assistant coach Nathan Bassett says midfield revelation Dan Houston will front against Western Bulldogs despite hampered by a side strain.
Houston’s elevation to the Power engine room from half-back has been one of the success stories of the season for senior coach Ken Hinkley. Houston gathered 26 touches in Port’s upset win against Geelong last Saturday night despite inconvenienced by the side strain.
“Dan is ready to go. He will be lining up tomorrow night,” confirmed Bassett.
Houston did feature in Port’s captain’s run on Friday morning at Alberton but missed a mid-week training session and done “not a great deal” ahead of the Bulldogs clash.
“He played with it last week, played well and will play again this week,” said Bassett of 52-game on-baller Houston.
Bassett said ‘there is a good chance’ Houston will take on another key midfield assignment with diminutive distributor Caleb Daniel in career-best form.
Marcus Bontempelli poses an ongoing threat to a Port side chasing consecutive wins for the first time since Round 6.
“We will pick what is best for the team. He has done a good job in the midfield the last few weeks,” said Bassett.
