Bone rates the Port Adelaide players from the heavy loss to Adelaide

PORT Adelaide had far too many passengers against Adelaide in Showdown 40 — and Chris McDermott’s ratings for the Power players reflects that.

TRAVIS BOAK: 6. Didn’t look anywhere near 100 per cent. Closely checked again but somehow still managed eight inside-50s and five shots on goal.

JAKE NEADE: 4. Got some ball but decision-making let him down, eventually causing him to turn the ball over and proving costly to his team.

MATTHEW BROADBENT: 4 Not enough influence from a man Port desperately needs. He’s normally Mr Reliable in the Power’s defence but could not find any energy at all.

BRAD EBERT: 5 As with many of his teammates, looked sluggish and well off the speed of this game. Dropped in and out too often and had none of the hard gut-running we are used to.

ROBBIE GRAY: 7 Lone soldier throughout but did miss a gimme goal in the second term as the Power failed to make the most of its chances.

JACKSON TRENGOVE: 5 It was a horror story for all the Power’s tall defenders, and Trengove was no different. Couldn’t get out of a gallop, and while his numbers were OK, he looked slow.

OLLIE WINES: 6 Couldn’t get enough clear disposal when it mattered most. Got some ball as the game wore on but had limited effect.

JIMMY TOUMPAS: 4 It’s not happening for Jimmy at this early stage of his Port career. A horror handball in the second term was typical of his and the Power’s day. Pace a worry.

CHAD WINGARD: 4 Some moments of brilliance in second term to give his team hope but it was quickly lost. Played in an attacking role that kept him out of the action for too long until hammy gave him trouble. Problem!

JARED POLEC: 3 Put himself in rare air when he did not touch the ball in first half bar one scrubby handball. Run last week appeared to flatten him completely and, like many of his teammates, he simply didn’t come up in the six-day break.

CHARLIE DIXON: 3 Costly miss in second term hurt after Power had kicked three in a row. Had Daniel Talia in his 100th game as a direct opponent and he is a difficult man to beat. Talia took all the points.

MATTHEW LOBBE: 4 Tough day in the ruck once again. Got better as the day progressed but was soundly beaten in the first half. Mind you when he did win a hitout he had very little fight at ground level to make it count.

JARMAN IMPEY: 3 Didn’t touch the ball much in the first half and had no influence for the second week in a row. Needs to go back to the SANFL and rediscover his game.

ALIPATE CARLILE: 3 Too slow early and looked to be stuck in second gear. Part of a defensive unit that was completely outplayed.

JASPER PITTARD: 5 As with several of his mates, he found defending very difficult but he found something as the game progressed and showed a moment or two of special courage when it didn’t really matter.

DOUGAL HOWARD: 3 Had some tough moments in first term before a ripper goal in the second. Much to admire about his persistence and ability to keep his head up and try as hard as he could.

JACK HOMBSCH: 6 Solid effort in defence for the majority but powerless to stop the constant barrage of ball and numbers and the goals had to come.

JUSTIN WESTHOFF: 4 Dislocated a finger early and that appeared to hinder him slightly and take the edge of his performance.

AARON YOUNG: 7 Had a chance to close the margin slightly in second quarter but missed from the goal square. Didn’t miss much later and kicked four goals in a row, a couple of them very special

BRENDON AH CHEE: 4 Exactly the same as last week — he tried hard but couldn’t influence the game at all.

TOM JONAS: 4 Just too quiet again and not imposing himself enough on the game. Difficult to do when the scoreboard is what it was but that’s the difference between being good or great.

SAM GRAY: 5 Plenty of ball in first half but most of it was rushed and nearly all of it on his left foot. Can’t argue with his attitude and competitive spirit but not near the game he had the week before.
