The future of Geelong superstar Gary Ablett remains in the balance with the veteran saying he is “unsure” whether he will decide to play on.

The 35-year-old was named in the All-Australian squad of 40 after an impressive season, booting 34 goals and spending more time in the forward 50 in 2019.

However, a disappointing finals series has seen many pundits question whether the end is nigh for the dual Brownlow medallist.

Ablett gave no indication either way whether he would enter his nineteenth season, telling fans in an Instagram post yesterday he is still weighing up continuing his illustrious career.

“I understand that there’s been a lot of speculation about whether I’ve played my last game or not,” Ablett said in the post.

“There’s a lot to weigh up but I’m confident that whatever decision is made will be a well thought-out one.”

Ablett said he hopes to have an answer for Cats fans shortly and is set to enter talks with the club.

“Right now, I’m just looking forward to spending some downtime with my family and having conversations with my wife, Jordan and The Geelong Football Club about what we believe my immediate future looks like,” he said.

“At this stage, I’m honestly unsure as to which direction I’ll be heading but I am certainly making it a priority to make a decision sooner rather than later.
