ESSENDON has axed small forward Alwyn Davey.
The 29-year-old was selected with pick 36 in the 2006 national draft and played exactly 100 matches for the Bombers across his seven seasons.
He booted 120 goals but was as well known for his ferocious forward pressure and tackling.
"As a highly respected member of the Essendon playing group it's sad to see 'Froggy' depart the club," Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro told the Bombers' website.
"Unfortunately at this time of year we have to make tough decisions about our playing list and this is one of them.
"To play 100 games and kick 120 goals over seven seasons as a small forward is a terrific effort and we wish Alwyn and his young family all the best for the future."
It is not yet known if Davey wishes to continue his career elsewhere.
