Collingwood insists it won’t overpay any of its uncontracted stars, vowing to cut loose anyone inflating their worth.
Superstars Jordan De Goey, Darcy Moore, Brodie Grundy and Scott Pendlebury all fall out of contract next year as the Pies navigate a salary cap minefield.

But Collingwood list manager Ned Guy said the club had to stand firm.
“There’s no doubt that if any player came and put a price on their head that couldn’t fit in the one rigid part of our game, which is the salary cap, then we would have to let them go, there’s no doubt about that,” Guy said.
“Now, we hope all those players can see that they can have and share some success at this footy club and hopefully set themselves up.
“We’re not going to lowball any player, but at the same time we hope to keep them all because they want to be here.”
Guy was fronting a Collingwood members forum on Friday night with other club powerbrokers when he was urged by a supporter to follow Hawthorn’s lead and share the cash for fear of causing “collateral damage” by awarding huge contracts.
Asked how many Pies were in the top 30 highest-paid players in the AFL, Guy said: “It changes year to year, but not as many as you’d suspect.
“Absolutely, we want to keep all the players and that’s the strategy.
“Everything we do is part of a strategy to retain all the players we want to retain and certainly that’s what we’re striving for.”
The Herald Sun earlier this month revealed Collingwood had bowed to Brodie Grundy’s contract demands, agreeing to a mega-seven-year deal for the ruckman, who will earn around $1 million a season.
President Eddie McGuire said that deal “hasn’t happened”, while Guy said Grundy’s South American holiday had momentarily complicated things.
“As a general rule we are loathe to give a running commentary on any of the contract negotiations. Brodie is actually overseas,” Guy said.
“He seems to be on social media a bit, but he seems to be uncontactable at various times so I’m not sure he’s up to speed at the moment.
“So out of respect for Brodie, I think he needs to make sure he’s up to speed.”
