Collingwood superstar Brodie Grundy is staying with the club.

Grundy confirmed the news on his Twitter account on Friday morning, saying “Love this club. Love this group. Magpie Army, I’ve signed on.”

Grundy’s pending free agency was a massive story during the second half of the 2019 season.

The two-time All-Australian ruckman was seeking a seven-year deal from Collingwood, something the club was initially reluctant to offer.

However, in mid-November, the Herald Sun reported that the Magpies had bowed to Grundy’s contract demands, with the long-term deal now on the table.

Grundy, 25, will earn in the vicinity of $1 million a year which will make him the highest-paid ruckman in the history of the game.

“Clearly, at this age and point in my career, it was an important decision,” Grundy said.

“I took my time to consider all of the things that mean the most to me - my football, my ambitions, my life beyond the game, my family, friends, team-mates and the football club – and settled on what I believe is best for all of those relationships, needs and passions.

“I want to be able to find the very best version of myself, as a person and a footballer, but I also want to contribute to the greater good, to the whole. I know that, in a football sense at least, what ‘Bucks’ and the group are creating is a cause worth continuing to invest in passionately.

“There is so much more to come, personally and collectively.”

The bumper seven-year commitment to Grundy is the first of four major signings the Magpies have to complete.

Forward Jordan De Goey, defender Darcy Moore and skipper Scott Pendlebury all have expiring contracts at the end of the 2020 season.

The three of them will command salaries estimated to be between $700,000 and $1 million a year.
