Carlton recruiter Paul Brodie won’t follow Stephen Silvagni out the door
Rival clubs have sounded out Carlton’s top scout Paul Brodie, who is a close friend of Stephen Silvagni, since the list boss’ departure from the Blues.

Stephen Silvagni’s right-hand man Paul Brodie will retain his position as Carlton’s national recruiting manager for next season.
The popular talent-spotter, who has been instrumental in helping build the Blues’ young list in recent years, has confirmed with the club he has no plans to follow Silvagni out the door.
Rival clubs have made inquiries about Brodie’s status for next year after the Blues’ made the bold call to part ways with Silvagni after five years in the job.

The decision to dump Silvagni, one of the club’s greatest players, has divided the Carlton fan base.
But the Blues were adamant Silvagni had to move on “because of the increasing complexity of having two sons (Jack and Ben) on the playing list”.
It is understood Silvagni was keen for Brodie to stay on at Carlton beyond this year regardless of his own personal situation.
Silvagni is expected to take a break from football, while the Blues may not replace him as the GM list management and strategy for several months.
Sydney’s Kinnear Beatson and Fremantle’s David Walls have both been linked to the new position but Walls is in line for a promotion to stay with the Dockers.
As national recruiting manager Brodie is in charge of tracking the country’s top underage players and making the big calls on who to select in the drafts.
Together, Silvagni and Brodie and their team of recruiters have undertaken one of the most significant list rebuilds of the modern era, fuelling hopes the budding Blues are finally ready to rise up out of the doldrums under new coach David Teague.
Silvagni and Brodie previously worked at Greater Western Sydney together where they helped piece together one of the league’s most talented squads with the help of generous draft concessions from the league.
Silvagni was appointed Carlton list manager in late 2014 and then nabbed his close mate Brodie to join him in the key recruiting role in early 2017.

Before that, Brodie worked at Carlton in the 1990s under revered administrator Shane O’Sullivan, and then at Brisbane, where he unearthed gun midfielder Tom Rockliff in the pre-season draft.
Brodie was forced to resign from his position at the Giants in 2015 after it was found he put a $100 multi-bet on five AFL games, including a Giants match, in Round 19.
He was banned from football for 13 months.
