Veteran Carlton midfielder Marc Murphy will be on light duties for the next fortnight after hurting his foot in a training mishap.

The star ballwinner sent a major scare through the camp when he went down in match simulation and was taken off Ikon Park in a golf buggy.

But the 32-year-old has avoided serious injury after scans showed the former captain had only bruised his right foot in the incident.

Gun goal kicker Harry McKay is also still easing back from a groin problem which kept him away from the main group before Christmas.

While Murphy should be fully recovered by next month, he has a worrying recent history of foot and ankle injuries.

Murphy struggled with a plantar fascia problem in his opposite foot (left) in 2018 which restricted the dual best and fairest winner and All-Australian to 13 games.

He also suffered a serious syndesmosis issue in his right ankle in 2016 which ended his season in Round 10 that year.

But he returned to play a key midfield role in the back half of last season under new coach David Teague and showed he is still one of the Blues’ most damaging playmakers, playing 19 games for the year.

The loyal Blue finished eighth in the best and fairest in 2019 and is out of contract and eligible for free agency at the end of the season.
