ADELAIDE captain Taylor Walker says the perfect way to honour former coach Phil Walsh is to “get the job done” against Melbourne on Sunday as the club prepares to mark the first anniversary of his death.

Sunday, July 3 will be one year to the day since Walsh died and while Walker thinks about his former coach often, he says players are living in the moment and relishing their run to the finals 12 months on.

“There’s been a lot of water gone under the bridge, obviously it’s 12 months since he passed away and he left a massive footprint on the footy club and individual’s lives,” Walker told the media this morning.

“I’m sure individuals will treat it differently by themselves, but as a footy club we’re really happy with where we’re at, we have a lot of memories we can take out of it and look forward to as he said ‘get the job done’ on Sunday.

“I had a great relationship with him so it’s probably fair to say I do think about him quite often, he was a great man, Phil.

“We’re in the reality now, living in the moment and as a footy club we’re in a great position.”

The Crows are coming five wins on the trot and the only blight on their performance last week was an inaccurate 12.28 on the scoreboard.

But Walker said he took positives from the fact the team had 40 scoring shots against North Melbourne on Thursday night.

“I’m more of a glass half full — if you weren’t having those shots you’d be having a different conversation, but it’s an area we can fix, we’ve spoken about it and we’re doing a lot of work on it already so we will continue to do that,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to getting over there, Melbourne is playing some pretty good footy and so are we so we’re looking forward to the challenge ahead.”

Walker will come up against his old housemate Bernie Vince who is playing terrific footy with the Demons.

“He’s like a nice bottle of red — getting better with age,” he said.

“He was over on the break and we caught up with him, it’s always good to come up against good mates and hopefully we can get one over him again.”
