Out-of-contract Crows utility Ricky Henderson fails to find new home through AFL free agency period

ADELAIDE will be in a scramble for draft picks in the last four days of the AFL trade period after free agency closed on Sunday night with no new home for uncontracted utility Ricky Henderson.
Henderson, an unrestricted free agent, is still open to be traded from West Lakes this week as is Crows teammate, uncontracted midfielder Jarryd Lyons.
But it is highly questionable if 28-year-old Henderson can deliver in a trade the same draft benefit the Crows may have expected from the AFL in a compensation pick for losing a free agent.
Free agency closed on Sunday with just four unchallenged moves — and others left hanging in the trade window with Henderson.
Collingwood defender Nathan Brown, 28, moved to St Kilda as a restricted free agent. The Magpies on Sunday chose not to match the Saints’ two-year offer to the 130-game Brown, who fell out of favour at Collingwood this season.
The AFL on Monday is expected to reveal if Collingwood will be compensated.
OTHER FREE AGENTS WHO FOUND NEW HOMES
— Richmond forward Ty Vickery — to Hawthorn with the AFL handing the Tigers draft pick No.27.
— Fremantle forward Chris Mayne — to Collingwood with the compensation draft pick (No.23) then being used by the Dockers to trade for Hawthorn midfielder Bradley Hill.
— North Melbourne midfielder Daniel Wells — to Collingwood with pick No.33 added by the AFL to next month’s draft call in Sydney as compensation to the Kangaroos.
Adelaide eagerly wanted a second-round draft pick in return for losing Henderson as a free agent to ensure the Crows would have at least one call in the top 50 at next month’s draft in Sydney if pick No.13 is traded for Carlton midfielder Bryce Gibbs.
