Kym Ryder intends to remain a man of the people after replacing Mark Ricciuto as Adelaide Football Club member-elected board director.

Ryder was successful in his second run for the Crows board after premiership defender Rod Jameson won the popular vote at last year’s election.

Ryder became the second non-Crows player after Ross Dillon in 1998 as a member nominated director. The O’Loughlin’s Lawyers partner prevailed against Daniel Kiley and Paul Edginton to clinch a two-year term.

“I come in with a fresh set of eyes, hoping I can be a point of difference and contribute to the thinking in the group,” Ryder told The Advertiser.

“There hasn’t been a lawyer on the board, I have some strong views and at a stage in my life where I could add something across the table. “

Ryder will continue to sit in the Fos Williams stand this season, taking feedback on ‘member pricing’ to game day experience of families grappling with exorbitant Stadium charges for food and water.

“I sit in the Fos Williams stand and expect to sit there as the year goes on. You always know you have been to the bar. Any day at the footy is significant,’ said Ryder, married to Megan, father to Oliver, 11, and Grace 9.

Competing with Jameson in an election was an up hill battle but whet the Scotch Old Collegian’s appetite for another tilt.

“He (Jameson) has been very nice to me. Last year he made contact pretty much straight after the election result and is a lovely fella. All the board members I have met have been welcoming,” said Ryder, who grew up supporting SANFL side Norwood.

“I am really excited and it’s a new opportunity. I am pretty interested in the business of sport and thought I could bring some different skills.

Voting for the board vacancy created by club legend Ricciuto’s transition from member-elected to board appointed position finished on Monday.

Ryder ran on a platform of establishing a city club base, continued support for community programs and open communication across all levels. Members, notes Ryder, are the heartbeat of a successful club.

“It is continuing to be strong footy club that has lots of success,” he said.

“I think 2019 will be a fresh start.”
