Hugh Greenwood’s manager downplays speculation linking Crows’ utility with Hawthorn

The manager of Hugh Greenwood says the intention is to work out a new deal to keep the midfielder in Adelaide, despite speculation that interstate clubs are ready to pounce on the Crow.
The 27-year-old has made no secret about his desire to remain in Adelaide when his contract expires at the end of this year, tellingThe Lowdown, The Advertiser’s AFL podcast on Tuesday, that his management had met with the Crows last week to discuss extending his stay at West Lakes.
But reports out of Melbourne are linking the former professional basketballer to Hawthorn, with one report suggesting that the Hawks are “leading the chase”.
The Advertiser understands that there are up to seven clubs that are interested in Greenwood should he not ink another deal in Adelaide.
But his manager Michael Oakes said the intention for Greenwood was to stay in Adelaide, and that was what he was working towards.
“I sat down with the Crows last Wednesday,” he said when contacted by The Advertiser.
“The intention is to continue working through it (a new deal) with the Crows.”
After signing as a Category B rookie in 2015, leaving NBL side Perth Wildcats to have a crack at the AFL, the Tasmanian has played 48 games for the Crows across three seasons.
He missed the opening month of the season after an interrupted pre-season but has played every game since round five.
The big-bodied midfielder has averaged 17 disposals, two marks and six tackles this season.
Greenwood and the Crows will be looking to bounce back from their Showdown smashing at the hands of bitter rivals Port Adelaide when they take on the struggling Gold Coast Suns at Metricon Stadium on Saturday.
