Game within a game: Fortnite keeping Jake Lever close with his former Adelaide Crows teammates
AS the Crows players prepare for a fiery on-field reunion with their former teammate Jake Lever, star forward Eddie Betts has revealed many are still in regular contact with the now-Melbourne key defender — largely because of an online game.

- Jake excited to face Crows ‘mates’
AS the Crows players prepare for a fiery on-field reunion with their former teammate Jake Lever, star forward Eddie Betts has revealed many are still good mates with the now-Melbourne key defender.
And while there has been talk of Adelaide wanting to make life tough for Lever when he plays against the club for the first time in Alice Springs on Sunday, Betts says there is plenty of love for the defector off the field.
“There are guys at the club that are still good mates with him,’’ Betts said.
“The guys these days play Fortnite, the (multi-player) online game, everyone seems to be on it.
“They have their little group texts and they are like, ‘are you on tonight?’. They get a time, say 7.50pm, and are on it until about 12 at night. It’s crazy.
“Charlie Cameron (who quit Adelaide to join Brisbane at the end of last season) is still pretty close with the boys as well because he's on their Fortnite group and they all play the game together.’’
Lever claimed most of the Crows players were still his friends, despite captain Taylor Walker’s public lashing of him last year when he claimed the 22-year-old had chosen “money over success’’ when he quit Adelaide to sign a four-year deal with the Demons.
Betts told FIVEaa that he should have Lever’s measure in the Crows’ attacking 50, having had the better of him at training for three years.
“It will be interesting for me because we will be down the same end,’’ he said.
“He’s a good fella and I was pretty close with Jake but I’ll get stuck into him a bit because I remember that at every training session he would try to (side) step me but he couldn’t.
“I would always tackle him and get him holding the ball. So when he tries to dummy me I’m going to tackle him and keep reminding him of what happened when he was at the Crows and tried to get around me.
“I’ll say ‘don’t try that ‘Snakey’ (Lever’s nickname), don’t try that.’’
