PORT Adelaide’s games record holder Kane Cornes says “heads could roll” at Adelaide at season’s end over the Crows’ alarming spate of soft-tissue injuries.
Paul Seedsman is set to miss the Showdown against Port Adelaide on Saturday after injuring his left hamstring in the 13-point loss against Melbourne at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, taking the club’s official hamstring injury count for the season to 12.
“It’s been a disappointing year in every way for the Adelaide Football Club,” Cornes told SEN Breakfast on Monday after the Demons effectively extinguished the Crows’ finals hopes.
“Tex (Taylor Walker) spoke tough at the end of the year, he had a crack at Jake Lever and the players that left and said they were on the right path.
“It’s to the point where you think people are going to lose their jobs over here with the way Adelaide has gone in many facets.
“Another hamstring injury on the weekend to Paul Seedsman, that’s number 12 and they’ve all been to key players which has absolutely wrecked their season.
“They’ve got a massive review that they need to do. At the right point they really need to dissect what has gone on this year.”
Captain Walker, club champion Matt Crouch, Eddie Betts, Sam Gibson, Wayne Milera, Kyle Hartigan and Riley Knight have all missed games through hamstring injuries this season.
After writing in his Advertiser column on Monday that the Crows should call an abrupt end to Walker’s injury-interrupted season after averaging only 12 disposals and kicking seven goals since returning in round 13, Cornes also suggested it was time for the Crows to hand over the captaincy to re-signed star Rory Sloane.
“I’ve said that Rory Sloane just looks the captain to be at Adelaide, he certainly ticks every box for me the way that he plays, the way he leads and how popular he is with the fans over here,” Cornes told SEN.
“If it was me, I would be making a change in captaincy there.
“Taylor’s done all the pushing and shoving behind the ball for a while, it’s OK, unless you put your head over the footy.
“He’s had some moments this year where he’s really let himself down and there was one spoken about quite heavily against Collingwood earlier on the year where he ran over the footy.”
