Crows forward Josh Jenkins says it’s the Crows call to decide if he moves or not

Out-of-favour Adelaide forward Josh Jenkins says he is not seeking a move away from the club and he won’t unless the Crows tell him he’s no longer a required player.

'We've just got to win'

Josh Jenkins has reiterated his intention to stay at the Adelaide Crows next season and says it’s up to the club to come to him to discuss any potential move back to Victoria.

Speaking on SEN Radio on Wednesday morning, Jenkins, 30, was asked if he would accept an offer from a Melbourne-based club in the impending off-season.

“The fact of the matter is I continually go back to my contract, so if that conversation arises then I guess that’s for the club to come to me because I’ve continually stated I enjoy being in Adelaide,” Jenkins responded.

“A contract’s a contract and I signed it with the intention of fulfilling the five years.

“I’d prefer to stay, but if (the Crows) are a bit more forthright and say they don’t see me in their plans then it’s a completely different set of circumstances.

“Durability is not an issue and I don’t see my age as an issue either. I think I’ve got at least two years of good footy left in me but if that’s not the view shared by the footy club then I guess we have to have a think about it.”

The key forward — who is contracted to the end of 2021 but has spent six matches playing in the SANFL this season — admitted the AFL industry was getting “more brutal” in the wake of players forcing trades to rival clubs while still under contract.

“We’re seeing the clubs start to wrestle some of that ascendancy back. I get it and I accept it.

“We’re not going to get to the level of the NRL players — who put a different polo on midweek and go back to their club and play out their season — but we are moving in that direction.”

Jenkins will be ineligible to play in the impending SANFL finals series unless the Crows also qualify for the AFL finals.
