ADELAIDE co-captain Chelsea Randall has added another award to her trophy collection after on Wednesday night becoming the Crows’ 2018 AFLW club champion at a gala event at the National Wine Centre.

It came just one night after she was named the joint winner of the 2018 Shadforth Financial Group AFLW Champion Player of the Year Award with the Western Bulldogs’ Emma Kearney.

Randall, 26, had a close to flawless season by polling 162 of a possible 168 votes and finished 33 clear of defender Sarah Allan.

“It’s a team sport and the ultimate goal is to make the grand final and win the premiership.

“We were able to do that last year and had an opportunity this year,’’ Randall said last night.

“That’s what drives us.

“But I am absolutely overwhelmed and honoured. “

Randall began the season with a bang and didn’t look back: she received a maximum 24 votes in Round 1 against Brisbane and also won the peer-voted Players’ Player Award for the second year in a row.

Votes for the club champion award were cast on a 1-4 basis by senior coach Bec Goddard and assistant coaches Andrew Hodges, Mark Moody, Brooke Copeland, Andrew McLeod and Peter Caven.

Four players polled maximum votes in games: Randall — four times — Phillips, Allan and Marinoff.

With Randall racing away in the count the intrigue centred around who would finish second with Sarah Allan and Ebony Marinoff being close in the voting from the early rounds.

Only one vote separated them ahead of the final match against Collingwood, in which Allan played a fine game and polled 18 votes to finish six ahead.

It was the second year in succession that Marinoff finished third after she finished behind superstar Erin Phillips and Randall at the end of the first season of the national women’s competition.

Phillips, who was the competition’s standout player last season, finished seventh after struggling with a persistent quad injury in 2018.

She missed the first two matches, was then the game breaker with four out of the Crows’ six goals in the club’s win against the Western Bulldogs only for the injury to continue to hamper her for the rest of the year.

The highest-placed NT-based player in the vote count was reliable defender and joint vice-captain Angela Foley, who finished fourth.

Even without being at 100 per cent Phillips shared the Leading Goalkicker Award with exciting first-year player Ruth Wallace. They kicked seven goals apiece, five fewer than competition leader Brooke Lochland of the Western Bulldogs.

Allan, who impressed with her poise and clean skills in the backline, won the gong for the Best Defensive Player.
