BRYCE Gibbs is a Crows player after a trade with Carlton was agreed on this morning.
The Blues have acquired pick 10, pick 16, pick 73 and Adelaide’s future second-round selection, in exchange for Gibbs, pick 77 and its future second and third round picks.
The deal was a major turnaround for the Crows, who initially indicated they wouldn’t revisit a Gibbs trade after they failed to get a deal last year.
The trade is likely to lead to a range of other deals being made today, among them Charlie Cameron crossing to Brisbane. Adelaide on Tuesday demanded Lions star Dayne Zorko in exchange for Cameron but negotiations continue.
Crows general list manager Justin Reid said he was chuffed with the deal.
“This deal presents much better value compared to what was first discussed 12 months ago with the return of future draft picks from Carlton, in what we consider a very strong draft, a key component for us,” he said.
“To be able to bring in an A-grade midfielder and improve our position for next year’s draft is a great result for our club.
“Bryce is not only a quality player but a quality person as well and he will have an immediate impact on our playing group both on and off the field.”
Gibbs leaves Princes Park after 11 seasons in the navy blue and 231 games.
Carlton list manager Stephen Silvagni farewelled Gibbs and thanked the midfielder for his services to the Carlton Football Club.
“We feel we have reached a deal that is in the best interests of the Carlton Football Club and in doing so, Bryce returns to his home state,” Silvagni said.
“We now currently hold picks 3, 10 and 16 which was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up as a side continuing to build its depth.
“We wish Bryce, fiancee Lauren and their son Charlie all the best for their future endeavours.”
