Adelaide hopeful Seedsman’s adductor injury is not serious and he can play against GWS this weekend

ADELAIDE will hold its breath this week and hope wingman Paul Seedsman’s adductor injury is not a major setback after he finally overcame persistent hip and groin injuries this year.

Pyke stares down his team at 3 quarter time

ADELAIDE will hold its breath this week and hope wingman Paul Seedsman’s adductor injury is not a major setback after he finally overcame persistent hip and groin injuries this year.

Seedsman was in career-best form and led the AFL in metres gained with his penetrating run when he was a late withdrawal from the Crows’ team that was thumped by Melbourne in Alice Springs on Sunday.

Seedsman did the warm-up with the players but made a decision with the club’s physical conditioning staff that he was not right to play.

It is the first game Seedsman has missed this year after injuries restricted him to just five in 2017 but coach Don Pyke is hopeful he will be right to return for the GWS game on Sunday.

While he was replaced by Myles Poholke before the bounce, the Crows also lost Luke Brown to concussion in the first quarter in his first game back also from an adductor injury.

“We’re going to have to wait and see (on Seedsman), it’s too early to tell on that, the doctors and himself didn’t feel comfortable putting him out there so we’ll assess it during the week,” Adelaide coach Don Pyke said.

“Hopefully it’s one of those things which has flared up and we can get it settled down and he’ll be ready for next week.

“He was deemed too much of a risk from the docs to proceed with him so we brought Myles Poholke in, so a little bit of juggling but we had Sam Gibson as the extra runner to play wing so thought we could cover that.”

One of the talking points of the loss was coach Don Pyke’s seething stare-down of the Adelaide players at three-quarter-time which he said was to reinforce the dire situation of the game.

When he did speak, David Mackay said the message was clear and direct.

“That we were so far away from how we want to play, and we know that, we felt that on the ground but unfortunately we couldn’t do anything about it while we were out there,” Mackay said.

“So our energy now goes into responding.”

Asked how impressive Melbourne is after the Demons posted their seventh 100-plus score this season and fifth win in a row, Mackay said they could beat anyone in the competition.

“They’re a really good side, we knew that coming into the game, and credit to them they’re playing really good footy at the moment and will be hard to beat no matter who they play,” he said.
