CROWS star Rory Sloane has refused to commit his future to the club, saying he is still weighing up a stay-or-go decision.
Responding to reports that he has agreed to a new four-year deal worth $3.6 million to stay at Adelaide, Sloane said he remains undecided about where he will play next year and that his decision will come down to more than just football.
“I haven’t made a decision yet,’’ Sloane told Triple M radio on Wednesday.
“Like with any job, you go through the same process when you are thinking about work commitments and a job that you might take.
“Yeah you’ve got the job but there’s other stuff to consider, there’s a person away from football as well, there’s a Rory Sloane away from football that I also think about.
“You’ve got to balance it up, so it’s not just a simple process to tick off. That’s 100 per cent honest from myself, that’s as honest as I can be.
WALKER CAPTAIN IN COMPACT LEADERSHIP GROUP
“People might take that different ways but I won’t make a decision until I’ve gone through the whole process.’’
Dual club champion Sloane, 27, is out of contract and a free agent at the end of the season.
The Victorian — one of the best midfielders in the game and an All-Australian in 2016 — has been linked to a host of clubs in his home State, including Collingwood, St Kilda and North Melbourne.
He said speculation about his football future is just that and is adamant that he hasn’t made a decision, although he said he had been speaking regularly to the Crows.
“Am I thinking through my contract, absolutely, of course I would be,’’ Sloane said.
“I’m very happy with where I am at the moment and the club is very aware of where I’m at, I’ve absolutely been chatting to them.
“People want to hear a yes or no but I’m thinking through everything that comes with making a contractual decision.
“This could very well be one of the last contracts I sign, so there is a bit to think about.’’
Sloane, who yesterday was reappointed as vice-captain for 2018, said his main focus is on helping Adelaide rebound from last year’s AFL grand final loss to Richmond.
“This season is going to be so important for our footy club and we’ve got a group of men who are so committed to each other,’’ he said.
“We want to get better and keep improving on last year.’’
