Adelaide Crows forward Josh Jenkins hoses down social media trade speculation

Crows forward Josh Jenkin says he does not expect Adelaide to put him on the AFL’s trade table at season’s end with rumours swirling around about luring Brodie Grundy home.

Crows forward Josh Jenkin has hosed down social media reports that he’d been told he would be put on the trade table at season’s end.

St Kilda, Hawthorn, Essendon, Western Bulldogs and Melbourne were named as clubs that would present offers to Jenkins in the coming weeks.

A typically honest Jenkins laughed off that speculation on SEN radio Wednesday morning and said the first he had heard of the rumours were after being contacted by his brother on the weekend.

“I guess there a possibility,’’ Jenkins said.

“It’s a fair reach, funnily I had my brother reach out to me. He reached out to me asking if I was being traded because he saw something was on Facebook.

“I was in this situation, only for one week admittedly in 2017 and got to play a Grand Final, things can change quickly but it would be a fair stretch to make that assumption at the moment,’’ he said.

Jenkins said he was focused on regaining his place his place in the Crows line-up.

“I’ve been really lucky to play 20 games or more the last five season,’’ Jenkins added.

“I also understand there is still 14 AFL games to go plus hopefully some finals footy.

“It’s taken longer than I hoped, but there is still 14 games to go and at some point I believe I’ll be back in the team.

“I’ll just back myself, my belief and my ability that I won’t be at the lower level long term, I feel like I’ll be back in the team soon,’’ he said.

The Jenkins trade speculation comes as speculation regarding the future of star Collingwood ruckman Brodie Grundy intensifies.

Grundy — a restricted free agent next year — is expected to receive a massive, multimillion-dollar offer from Adelaide.

A potential No. 1 draft pick — obtained from Carlton as part of last year’s controversial draft trade for Liam Stocker — could sweeten any deal to get Grundy to West Lakes next season.

Collingwood risks minimal compensation if Grundy chose to leave in 2020 as Adelaide found when Patrick Dangerfield exited to Geelong.
