ADELAIDE has confirmed captain Taylor Walker was reprimanded by the club for an alcohol-related incident in July.
A club spokesman confirmed Walker had broken team rules concerning alcohol but that the indiscretion was at the minor end of the spectrum, with the club choosing neither to fine the skipper nor refer it to the AFL Players’ Association.
The incident led to an in-house penalty in line with what a player could expect if he missed a commitment to attend a sponsor’s function or other minor infractions.
The Walker incident is understood to have happened when the players were on a seven-day break.
“The club has dealt with it and considers the matter closed,” the spokesman said.
It caps a forgettable season for Walker, who missed the final two games through suspension after battling multiple injuries.
Coach Don Pyke earlier this month vented his frustration about criticism and questioning of Walker’s captaincy, saying he was a “great leader of our footy club”.
The news of Walker’s indiscretion emerged as reports have delved further into the contentious club’s pre-season camp, suggesting a group of senior players led by Walker this week confronted Pyke, head of football Brett Burton and chief executive Andrew Fagan with their concerns over how issues had been handled this season.
Much of it was said to centre on the employment of Collective Mind, which ran the camp on the Gold Coast and continued to stay involved with the program until the Crows cut the ties mid-year.
