Toby Greene and Michael Walters headline risk-reward SuperCoach finals picks
Need to pull off a big move to get the edge in a knockout SuperCoach final? Get the lowdown on who to ditch and the left-field picks who could win you a semi-final in Round 21.
Supercoach
Don't miss out on the headlines from Supercoach. Followed categories will be added to My News.
SuperCoach finals are underway and it isn’t time to be romantic about who you keep in your side.
With three weeks remaining, you need to be ruthless and maximise your trades to make sure we get the biggest score you can each week.
Here’s the players you should be looking to move on or trade in before SuperCoach semi-final week.
BOOT HIM
James Sicily
Once again he let us down when we needed him most. He struggled to 76, but it was nowhere near what we need from someone of his price and pedigree in a final. He was unfortunately back to his old ways, as he gave away three free kicks — the equal highest in the game. If he didn’t cause you to be knocked out of finals this week, don’t give him the opportunity to make that happen again!
Justin Westhoff
With how the Power line-up is being thrown around, it’s hard to know what Westhoff’s role is. His last four scores have been under 90 you can’t rely on him unless you are using him as a swing option to cover for your rucks. If you can get him off the field somehow and use him as a loophole option that would be the best way to keep him.
Luke Parker
While he wasn’t the worst of the Swans midfield in the derby, he has just one score over 100 in his last five games now and that is a very worrying sign. He hasn’t had the same impact since the return of Josh Kennedy with the midfield bull JPK having three totals over 100 in that same period. It’s time to cut Luke loose.

PIES: TRAINING GROUND NOT BEHIND INJURIES
David Mundy
He hasn’t had the worst run, but just one score over 100 since the bye and now a 48 (which was his second worst for the season). This type of scoring will lose you finals. He finished the game with just eight touches after starting at full-forward and if he hadn’t kicked two goals it would have been a disaster for owners.
Grant Birchall
Birchall found himself in 7.7 per cent of teams as defensive cover and unfortunately what most feared would happen has happened. The veteran Hawk has gone down with a hamstring injury. Given his injury history, I won’t be surprised to see him shut down for the rest of the season to get himself right for 2020, if his career isn’t over.
Stef Martin
This makes it three out of four for Martin under 100 and this last one is the last straw given that he was up against the Bulldogs and Tim English. The bigger issue for him is that once again Oscar McInerney has outscored him. Martin needs to be upgraded to the one of the big two as soon as you can.
Dayne Zorko
Zorko went down in the third quarter with ice on his hamstring which is a huge concern for owners. It looks like he will miss at least one week if not two and at this time of year we can’t have a premium miss any time at all so if the injury report comes back with the worst news then trade him.
Jarrod Witts
He went off with a knee injury in the last quarter and if this sees him miss any time at all you need to trade. There isn’t much news at the moment so just keep an eye on the injury report to see what happens.
BUY HIM
Michael Walters
Walters has hit form again, with his third total above 100 in a row this week. It was also his third highest score for the season. A unique score like this is the sort of thing that can win you a final. The Dockers play St Kilda, Essendon and Port Adelaide on the run home, all of which are winnable games for Ross Lyon’s side. Look for Walters to relish that run.
James Worpel
It is hard to go past a guy that has just scored 149 points. One of the top rules of SuperCoach is not to chase points, but he has posted scores over 100 now for the past four weeks, with Friday being his biggest. He is priced at under $500k, has mid-fwd swing and he could be a handy pick up.
Toby Greene
We have had Greene in the buy category for a couple of weeks now and he continues to impress as he soaks up the midfield time that has been vacated by injured duo Josh Kelly and Stephen Coniglio. He is racking up possessions and had another 34 this weekend. He is back to his elite form and can be a vice-captaincy loophole option who offers a point of difference.
Isaac Heeney
Since his bye, Heeney has had back to back 100+ scores twice. Before his bye he only managed that once. Three of his scores since the bye have also been 110+. He is hitting the sort of scoring form we always suspected he was capable of. Importantly, he is still priced around the $500k mark so you can upgrade to him from a maxed out rookie without needing a heap of cash.
Bachar Houli
Houli was great again as he posted his fourth-highest score of the year an his fourth over 100 in a row. He is playing a very SuperCoach-friendly role and is racking up as the Tigers continue their great run of games at the MCG. He is no longer cheap but he is a very solid option.
Adam Treloar
Hard to go past a guy that has just scored 177. Importantly this is eight over 100 in a row now for him and this was his best score of the season. Many were concerned about his role with Adams returning to the team but he had 35 touches to Adams having just 23. He is the form midfielder for the Pies so enjoy the ride.
Nic Newman
Newman had a couple of quiet games in the 80s in a row but his 161 this week, his best for the season, was his fourth over 100 in his last 6 and second over 140 in the last four. With the footy down back for the Blues a lot there are plenty of opportunities for him to get the footy. He could be worth a flyer as a unique to win you a final.
Marcus Bontempelli
The Bont took on the game and showed us how good he is. This was his fourth score over 130 in his last six weeks and his best for the season. He is still priced under $570k and he is a great option if you need to trade out an underperforming or an injured premium.
Players to watch for another week
Jack Ziebell
He bounced back after some poor form with a good score this weekend, but just beware if you are looking to hold him or to pick him up as he did kick three goals against the Hawks which really boosted his points. Without them he could have had another quiet night as he had just the 18 possessions at an efficiency of 61 per cent.

SAINTLY: IS MARSHALL AFL’S MOST IMPROVED PLAYER?
Tom Rockliff
While Rocky hasn’t been terrible he has had just the one score over 100 now in the last five weeks. With seven of the Power players reaching 100 this week and Rocky only getting to 80 it would have hurt owners. Hopefully he finds some form this week and bounces back, if you can upgrade your bench and loophole with him that would be what I would do.
Rory Sloane
He has been very up and down of late with three of his last five games being under 90 with the other two being over 100. His consistency is fluctuating with the fortune of his team and that is something we can’t have in finals. He faces the Eagles away before Collingwood at home in what is a tough run of games for the Crows.
Dom Sheed
Sheed has been very good since the bye but fell over this week. 6 clangers and an efficiency of just 66 per cent were the main issues with his game. Don’t panic trade him just yet as he should bounce back next week.
