THE BEST OPTIONS

Max Gawn (Melb)

v Richmond, Wednesday night

The Melbourne big man, who boasts a three-round average of 122, has to be your VC on Wednesay night after scoring 160 and 151 in his past two matches against the Tigers.

Brodie Grundy (Coll)

v Essendon, Thursday

Gawn into Grundy? That’s what The Phantom is thinking after the Collingwood star’s scores of 155 and 113 against the Bombers last year. And, including last year’s final series, Grundy averaging 137 points in his past nine matches at the MCG.

Travis Boak (Port)

v North Melbourne, Friday night

The Bombers midfield ran riot against the Kangaroos last week, with Zach Merrett, Dylan Shiel and Dyson Heppell all posting scores of 118 or more. Expect Boak, who is averaging 121 points per game this year, to be among the points in a big way on Friday night, despite his first score of less than 100 against the Eagles.

Lachie Neale should bounce back against the Suns this week.

Lachie Neale (Bris)

v Gold Coast, Saturday

Neale’s huge start to 2019 came to a halt last week with a 91-point performance against the Magpies and his last score against the Suns was 77 in Round 3 last season. But it will be a different story in his first Q Clash.

Nat Fyfe (Freo)

v Western Bulldogs, Saturday night

In Round 5 last season, Fyfe tallied 43 disposals, 21 contested possessions and 151 points against the Bulldogs. Expect him to have a similar impact on Saturday night, making him a great captain option for owners.

Patrick Cripps (Carl)

v Hawthorn, Sunday

The contested-ball beast is the No. 1 scorer in the game and he’s posted scores of 122 and 118 in his past two matches against the Hawks. What more do you need?

Patrick Dangefield (Geel)

v West Coast, Sunday

Will Dangerfield receive attention from Eagle Mark Hutchings or will it be Tim Kelly who cops the tag? If it’s the latter, expect Dangerfield to spend more time in the midfield than he did against the Hawks and match his three-game average of 125 against the Eagles.

LEFT-FIELD

Zach Merrett (Ess)

v Collingwood, Thursday

Only Cripps has scored more points than Merrett in the past three weeks so it’s not left-field in terms of form but it would mean overlooking Grundy in your VC/C combination for the week. But the in-form Bomber has scored 114 and 130 in his past two meetings with the Magpies.

Tom Rockliff could go big against the Kangaroos at Adelaide Oval in Round 6.

Tom Rockliff (Port)

v North Melbourne, Friday night

While Boak could be the safer option as VC, Rockliff could be the one to score 150 or more against the Kangaroos. We know he has it in him.

THE PHANTOM’S CALL

As much as I like the idea of Rockliff as a VC smoky, I think I’ll be going with the big man combination of Gawn VC into Grundy as C.
