SuperCoach formguide: Fantasy Freako’s trade, rookie tips for Round 14

Joel Selwood an Jack Macrae are part of an elite SuperCoach club — players who have lost at least $100,000 in value this season. And a star Collingwood midfielder isn’t far behind.

In SuperCoach, the mid-season bye-rounds is the equivalent.

There are a host of fallen premiums that are ripe for the picking after the bye – with a ball-magnet Bulldog atop of the list and after last round’s heroics, Jack Macrae is once again the headline act.

After racking up a season-high 150 points against the Blues, he took his season average to 116 which ranks fifth in the AFL in his position. His price has dropped significantly (-$117,000) and if we look at his output from Round 14 last season, he averaged the equal third-most points (128) of any midfielder in the league behind Patrick Dangerfield (133) and Tom Mitchell (134).

If you’re looking for a bargain, then Angus Brayshaw has to be in the mix. After playing in a variety of positions throughout the season, he has returned to his primary role as a midfielder in recent weeks, attending a season-high 22 and 15 centre bounces respectively in his past two games. He is averaging 105 points as a midfielder, but his selection does come with an element of risk. Unfortunately, his SuperCoach destiny now rests in the hands of Simon Goodwin.

Adam Treloar is another player to consider. He can also be purchased at his lowest price of the season after falling by $86,300 and with just one score under 80 – he is a model of consistency – reaching three figures in eight games. He suffered a severe hamstring injury in the corresponding round last season, so let’s hope that lightning doesn’t strike twice.

Below are the biggest price falls by midfielders (excludes Round 14 bye players);

ROOKIE RADAR

Reilly O’Brien was the hero of Round 13 after he scored a whopping 181 points. He enters this week’s bye with a break even of -20 points and his owners certainly have a dilemma on their hands. Cash him in, or alternatively hold to make more money? Unfortunately, there’s no right or wrong answer here.

Considering this is the last bye round and you can make three trades; it may be wise to make the most of this and cash in. This will give you plenty of dollars in the back as you look to finalise your team.

Sam Walsh (BE 70) is another cash cow with the bye this week and after his $231,800 windfall – this is an opportune time to turn him into a blue-chip premium. Fellow cash cows, Liam Baker (BE 100), Noah Balta (BE 90), Sydney Stack (BE62), Michael Gibbons (BE 38) and Will Setterfield (BE 29) are all prime candidates to be culled.

In terms of replacements – the NAB AFL Rising Star nominee for Round 13 is the standout choice. Dylan Clarke has made the most of his opportunity in a defensive role – keeping Jaeger O’Meara to 20 disposals in the time they were matched up last round after blanketing Patrick Cripps in his previous game. His job security in the short-term looks assured after he received glowing praise from John Worsfold for the impact he has made in his two games this year.

Matt de Boer’s eight-week injury could also see Jackson Hately return from the cold and play his third game after the Giants’ bye. He has been named as an emergency in each of the Giants’ past five games – posting solid numbers in the NEAFL in the process.

In defence, one-gamer, Griffin Logue exceeded all expectations with 93 points and a game-high 10 intercepts in the win over Port Adelaide. His job security is sound after replacing the injured Alex Pearce at full-back.

Lastly, Ryan Gardner is on the bubble this week as he prepares for his third match. A DPP, he has struggled to impose himself to date with two mediocre scores of 41 and 22 points. He could also be under the pump to hold his place in the side, with former No.2 pick, Josh Schache breathing down his neck. Schache is coming off two goals and 115 points in the VFL on the weekend.

Sydney Swans v Hawthorn

Melbourne v Fremantle

Tom McDonald’s price fall of $202,600 is the biggest of any Melbourne player on the back of averaging a career-low 61 points. Former Demon Jesse Hogan’s price has dropped by $187,400 after averaging a career-low 64 points.

St Kilda v Brisbane Lions

Rowan Marshall posted his second-highest score (122) of the season in last round’s win over Gold Coast. Lachie Neale had 92 points to his name at halftime when he last played in Round 12 but finished with just 106.

Port Adelaide v Geelong

Ryan Burton reached 100 points (103) for only the second time this season in last week’s loss to Fremantle. Mitch Duncan is one of only two Cats player to reach 100 points in eight games this season alongside Tim Kelly.

Western Bulldogs v Collingwood

Josh Dunkley ran riot last round against Carlton – recording a career-high 41 disposals and 173 points. Brodie Grundy scored 160 points when he came up against Tim English in Round 4 earlier this season.
