Carnage!

With Jason Horne-Francis, Jack Macrae and Finn Callaghan all out for multiple weeks, SuperCoaches have plenty of problems ahead of round 11.

TRADED OUT

Jason Horne-Francis ($499,600)

Al Paton: SELL – I didn’t deserve to get this lucky after trading him early in the season, but he’s a must sell. Get him back for $450k later ... if we have any trades left.

Tim Michell: SELL – There’s a world where you trade him to Shai Bolton this week, make a $70k profit, then trade Bolton back to Horne-Francis when he bottoms out and before he plays West Coast in round 18.

Matt Forrest: HOLD – I’m personally a big fan of holding missing premiums during the best-18 bye period. Think of it like making a pit stop during a safety car, the penalty is less. Sorry if you’re not an F1 fan and don’t understand the reference.

Tarquin Oakley: CONSIDER – Depends how many other problems you have. Would be a definite sell if the byes weren’t around the corner.

Jack Macrae ($517,300)

AP: SELL – If he misses two weeks then the bye it’s a lot to cover. Has been a fantastic servant but you can get a lot of points with that cash over that time.

TM: CONSIDER – If it was only a week out, then it’d be foolish to move Macrae on. But there’s a chance he misses the next two - then the round 13 bye - when being aggressive this round and trading would pay off. It’s a lineball call.

MF: HOLD – Missing three weeks; two games and then a bye, but with 2/3 of those games falling in the best 18 rounds I’m happy to hang onto him. Averaging 107.6 for the year - if you’ve got no problems at the moment you could trade him out, but I’m guessing no one is in that boat.

TO: CONSIDER – If you have to choose between keeping Horne-Francis and Macrae, I would keep the Saint. Could be a great POD in the run home and perhaps spend the trade you saved on getting Horne-Francis back at a cheaper price down the road.

SuperCoach AFL: Buy, Hold, Sell - Round 11 with The Phantom!

Riley Bice ($354,100)

AP: CONSIDER – Selling last week was the right play but if you still have him he’s not likely to lose much more cash over the next few weeks. Could hold and deal with other issues.

TM: SELL – You should have done this last week.

MF: SELL – You missed the boat, but the next best time to sell Bice is this week.

TO: SELL – It was time to go last week and Bice is just losing you money now.

Isaac Kako ($226,900)

AP: CONSIDER – Still hasn’t made much. I can see plenty of trades this week then him kicking four against Richmond.

TM: SELL – Lost more than $7k at the weekend and has a break even of 73. He hasn’t got within 10 points of that score all season.

MF: SELL – The slow burn is out of cash, time to ship him off. I was really hoping he’d pump out a 70 or so with a three-goal haul, but that never came.

TO: SELL – Has been a safe hold so far this year given his break even stayed low, despite his poor scores, but now that has ballooned out to 73.

Elijah Hewett. Picture: Getty Images
Elijah Hewett. Picture: Getty Images

Elijah Hewett ($291,600)

AP: SELL – Break Even well above his average. Use his cash.

TM: SELL – You can get away with holding for one more week if you’ve got rookies with higher break evens to deal with. But this is the ideal work to move Hewett on and bank a $168k profit.

MF: SELL – His break even is 83 and he’s hit that mark twice, but he’s also gone sub 35 twice and might drop a heap of cash.

TO: SELL – Managed to scrape a price rise last week but time to go now

Caiden Cleary ($260,100)

AP: SELL – Cleary to Cooper Simpson is the easiest trade of the week.

TM: CONSIDER – Not against holding to help with an extra number in the early byes. He might lose a bit of cash but you’ll be thankful you held if he gets you to 18 players in round 12 or 13.

MF: CONSIDER – Only consider an not sell because he could theoretically hit his break even of 62, but it might be a stretch. If you have no other problems, could be an easy trade.

TO: CONSIDER – Just because there are so many other issues to deal with! But an easy one to let go of otherwise.

Levi Ashcroft ($389,300)

AP: CONSIDER – Almost on the chopping block but I think I’ll need him for a couple more weeks. Value shouldn’t change too much.

TM: CONSIDER – I’m torn on this. Trading gets me Lachie Whitfield where I would have to settle for a riskier value pick if I hold Ashcroft. Break even of 86 looks high but he’s achieved that three times in the last six games.

MF: SELL – Time for Levi to go. He’s been great for us but he’s on the back end of his money making. Could theoretically hold him to his bye but he could easily lose cash.

TO: HOLD – He might have maxed out but he has been one of the more reliable rookies to leave on field and the players I want to trade out are not.

Finn Callaghan. Picture: Getty Images
Finn Callaghan. Picture: Getty Images

Finn Callaghan ($539,600)

AP: SELL – Dodged a bullet here, too, after trading Finn a few weeks ago (to Nick Daicos - the less spoken about that, the better). Love him as a player but if he’s missing a few weeks he has to go. At least he’s made a $100k profit now.

TM: SELL – Expected to miss 3-4 weeks and you’ll be left behind carrying a player worth more than $500k on your bench for that long.

MF: SELL – A minor shoulder dislocation means is a trade.

TO: SELL – He is listed as 4-6 weeks so we’re unlikely to see Callaghan until round 17 after the Giant’s bye.

Luke Trainor ($284,100)

AP: SELL – Time to go.

TM: SELL – Being subbed out against North Melbourne was the last straw for those who have been loyal for this long. Looked a bit tired and no guarantee to hold his spot in the Tigers’ side.

MF: CONSIDER – Trainor could be a sell, but against Essendon I’d back him in to hit his break even of 71.

TO: CONSIDER – Like so many of these players It depends on your other problems, but Balta is out this week so Trainor should avoid the vest at least.

Max Hall ($323,300)

AP: SELL – See above.

TM: HOLD – Break even of 64 really isn’t that bad. There are enough other rookie and injury issues that you might as well hold a player who has six 60+ scores and eight 50+ this year.

MF: HOLD – He’s been one of the best rookies this year, putting up consistently decent scores and made $200k. His break even is manageable, hold him for another two weeks then ship him off at his bye.

TO: CONSIDER – With two weeks until his bye you could ride him out.

Tom De Koning. Picture: Getty Images
Tom De Koning. Picture: Getty Images

Tom De Koning ($558,400)

AP: HOLD – If you held last week I wouldn’t trade now unless we here he’s out long-term.

TM: HOLD – All indications are he’s going to return this week against GWS and Kieren Briggs is having a poor season.

MF: HOLD – He should be back this week, but he might not be. Makes sense? Welcome to my world. Marc Pittonet played well enough to hold his spot if De Koning isn’t 100%, whether that’s alongside ‘King’ or rucking solo. Then it’s the bye week. A tough one, but if he’s back this week then definitely don’t trade.

TO: HOLD – If you held him last week when he was out, don’t trade now when he is set to return.

TRADED IN

Cooper Simpson ($119,900)

AP: BUY – Yes.

TM: BUY – The role is real and after Fremantle’s victory in western Sydney, his job security should be OK for at least a few weeks. Won’t get DPP though as he hasn’t played six games.

MF: BUY – He’s the No.1 trade in this week, for good reason. Has slotted into the back line at Fremantle and is scoring well. Job security isn’t super safe, but at this point of the year, who is safe?

TO: BUY – Not just the best rookie option, but just about the only rookie option this week. Everyone should jump on.

Shai Bolton. Picture: Getty Images
Shai Bolton. Picture: Getty Images

Shai Bolton ($430,200)

AP: BUY – Is this where I point out I had Shai in my first pre-season team reveal? Starting him probably wasn’t the best move but he’s basically the same price now, has a better role with Hayden Young injured and with a -8 Break Even. If it doesn’t work out, trade him back to JHF for a handy profit in a month.

TM: BUY – Normally a high-risk, high-reward type player but I don’t see much risk here. That’s because his break even is -8 so you’re guaranteed to make money. Bolton will either end up being a handy F7-M9 floater or might make the $100k that ultimately gets you Marcus Bontempelli.

MF: CONSIDER – Four big tons in his past five weeks. Plus three scores between 85-95. But then one injury-affected 5 against the Saints. He’s definitely a great scoring option, but is he top six forward?

TO: BUY – Hayden Young won’t be back anytime soon – and even if he was Freo would be silly to change Shai Bolton’s role. He is dominating with more midfield time and will make money with that extremely low break even.

Keidean Coleman ($269,100)

AP: WAIT – Plan to bring him in next week.

TM: WAIT – How good was it to see him back taking intercept marks against Melbourne? Keen to see one more week before committing though considering how long he spent out recovering from an ACL injury.

MF: WAIT – First game back in 15 months was promising, but I didn’t see enough to trade him straight in. Give it another week to see if it’s worth bringing in an elevated pricepoint.

TO: BUY – I am not opposed to going early on Kiddy if you need another cheap option alongside Simpson. A solid score first up playing just 87 minutes. Bye not until round 16 so that’s not a concern.

Jack Sinclair. Picture: Getty Images
Jack Sinclair. Picture: Getty Images

Jack Sinclair ($539,600)

AP: BUY – Still great buying. Get him in the midfield and move him back to defence over the byes.

TM: BUY – You’re late to the party but you’re still getting a top-six defender for less than $550k. Scores of 124 and 131 in the last two weeks signalled he’s back to his best and the Saints play five of their next seven at Marvel.

MF: BUY – He should be a top 6 defender from this point on, and is relatively cheap at $540k. One score under 80 but four scores over 120. Plus Gold Coast (this week’s opponent) concedes heavily to rebounding defenders.

TO: BUY – Last week would have been a good one to jump on but Sinclair is still good buying.

Luke Jackson ($542,700)

AP: CONSIDER – Can’t ignore the second-best average of all forwards (112). But Sean Darcy has hardly played a full game all year. Will probably still score well but too many question marks for me.

TM: CONSIDER – He could be the best sideways trade for Jason Horne-Francis and Jack Macrae owners if Sean Darcy is out for a few more weeks. But as soon as Darcy returns, he’s a non-factor and that’s an issue.

MF: CONSIDER – He’s been a great player, when Sean Darcy doesn’t play. When Darcy is in the side, his scoring takes a plummet. Wait and see what the team selection looks like.

TO: PASS – Looks like Darcy is back this week, so won’t be going here.

Dante Visentini. Picture: Getty Images
Dante Visentini. Picture: Getty Images

Dante Visentini ($248,900)

AP: CONSIDER – If Matt Flynn had tanked last weekend this shaped as the perfect move to keep the cash rolling, but I don’t see any reason to get Flynn out yet - and there are other spotfires to deal with. Could work for some, though.

TM: CONSIDER – Still not completely sold on his job security even though he was decent against Geelong. I’m leaning towards telling you to pass because I don’t think the money he makes is going to justify using two trades to bring him in then out.

MF: AVOID – He can be tempting as a downgrade option from Flynn, and if the West Coast ruck didn’t score 111 last round I probably would be doing that trade, but I don’t see his job security as great.

TO: CONSIDER – Just dependent on your set-up. If you’re only running two rucks and he becomes your flex it’s a play you could consider.

Chad Warner ($539,900)

AP: CONSIDER – Going great but there are others around this price to weigh up now. Isaac Heeney is $22k cheaper.

TM: BUY – Clear top-six forward now Horne-Francis is out for a month and Macrae will miss a few weeks. Averaging 120 since signing his new contract. Don’t worry about the likely Clayton Oliver attention this week - just get on.

MF: BUY – He’s found great form in the middle of the season and will come home as a top 6 forward. His break even is still 100+ so you could possibly hold, but he has Melbourne this week, then Adelaide and Richmond before his bye.

TO: PASS – He was almost $80k cheaper just a few weeks ago. He’s in great form but Bolton is the better value option this week for a FWD/MID.

Archer Day-Wicks ($99,100)

AP: PASS – Only if you’re absolutely desperate and will never need him on field.

TM: PASS – Scores of 33 and 37 in his first two games, so he’s going to be a very slow burn and looks unlikely to get into your best 18 at any point during the byes.

MF: CONSIDER – A rookie-priced option, but he’s not a great scorer. If you want a slow burner then he’s an option. The Bombers love him, but is his job safe in the side?

TO: PASS – Not convinced with two scores in the 30s.

Marcus Bontempelli. Picture: Getty Images
Marcus Bontempelli. Picture: Getty Images

Marcus Bontempelli ($665,600)

AP: CONSIDER - My plan has been to wait until his price drops and grab him after the Dogs’ round 12 bye. But will he be much cheaper? If it doesn’t blow up your team I’m not against it.

TM: BUY – Three scores of 140-plus in five games this year. You might get him 10-20k cheaper if you wait until after the bye, but how many points will you miss out on while others trade the Dogs skipper in?

MF: WAIT – You’ll need him to complete your side, but surely he drops that price at some point. His break even is 157 so that should be this week. He’ll get some attention this week from Tom Atkins or Oisin Mullin, but that won’t slow him down. Then he has the bye.

TO: WAIT – He continues to dominate SuperCoach but will leave one week before his bye.

Noah Anderson ($544,400)

AP: CONSIDER – Like him a lot, one of many good premos you could get around this price.

TM: CONSIDER – Suns captain is the 10th-ranked midfielder for averages after his 152 in Darwin last round. The reason I’m not completely sold is he’s only twice scored over 120 in nine matches and will likely be tagged this round.

MF: WAIT – He’s a great option in the midfield as a high-ceiling player, but he’s got a relatively tough run of games before his bye.

TO: CONSIDER – Anderson has been very consistent this year and that’s his first big ton over 113 since round 1.
