Every KFC SuperCoach score from week one of the AFL’s pre-season Marsh Series
Christian Petracca, Marcus Bontempelli and Lachie Neale were the stars of the opening weekend of the Marsh Series. Who were the other standouts? Every game reviewed.
Supercoach
Don't miss out on the headlines from Supercoach. Followed categories will be added to My News.
The third forward spot has long been a headache for SuperCoaches.
Not any more.
This year, coaches are spoiled for choice for who to take after popular picks Lachie Whitfield and Dustin Martin.
On Saturday, an unstoppable Christian Petracca provided one of the major talking points of the opening weekend of the Marsh Series with a dominant midfield display at Casey Fields.
Petracca had 38 disposals, booted three goals and amassed 188 points to put himself firmly on the radar of coaches at a SuperCoach price of $441,300.
The 24-year-old has never averaged more than 81.5 points, but left SuperCoaches with plenty to ponder after running rings around Adelaide.
If Petracca is too much of a risk for you, how about Gold Coast’s Hugh Greenwood?
The former Crow posted big SuperCoach numbers in the SANFL last year and started life with the Suns with a score of 109 against Geelong.
Gold Coast won’t dominate games like they did against the Cats too often, but Greenwood ($463,100, FWD-MID) started in the centre square and had 25 possessions and nine tackles.
There’s also Tom McDonald ($387,000, FWD) who tallied 139 against the Crows.
McDonald struggled last season, averaging 71.3, but was one of the top forwards of 2018 when he averaged 97.6.
Meanwhile, Marcus Bontempelli’s SuperCoach ownership surged by five per cent in 12 hours after he ran amok against North Melbourne.
Patrick Dangerfield averaged 80 #SuperCoach points in his 4th season. He then went bang in his 5th season and went at 114 per game. Christian Petracca averaged 80 points last year (4th season). You know the restð. #MarshSeries #2020AFLProspectus

The Western Bulldogs skipper, a $623,000 midfielder, scored 195 against the Roos after amassing 37 disposals, 10 clearances and booting two goals.
Bontempelli went from featuring in 12 per cent of teams to 17 per cent after his eye-catching display, yet still has one of the lowest ownerships of the 10-most expensive on-ballers.
Patrick Cripps (52 per cent of teams) is the most-popular, followed by Nat Fyfe (38 per cent) and Bontempelli’s teammate Jack Macrae (31 per cent).
Macrae scored 124 against North Melbourne, while Josh Dunkley (103) also hit triple figures.
Todd Goldstein (100) was the top scorer for the Roos, although SuperCoaches would have been paying most attention to Aiden Bonar.
A 76 on debut for the Roos will bring the $202,800 MID-FWD into the plans of thousands of coaches.
If he can maintain that average, Bonar will be worth finding the extra money for.
Bontempelli’s ownership is equal to 2018 Brownlow medallist Tom Mitchell, who suggested he’s ready to reclaim his mantle as the premier SuperCoach midfielder with a promising Marsh Series return against St Kilda.
Let's talk about The Bont:

The prolific Hawk, who averaged 129.1 points a game two years ago, amassed 89 points in 61 per cent gametime in his first outing since breaking his leg.
Mitchell’s ownership is likely to surge from 17 per cent after he had 21 disposals in quick time during Hawthorn’s defeat at Moorabbin.

His price peaked at $729,800 during his Brownlow year, which featured 18 tons.
The 26-year-old is available for almost $100,000 less this season, starting at $630,000.
On Thursday’s evidence, starting without him could be problematic.
As dominant as Tim Membrey was against the Hawks, a career-high SuperCoach average of 80.4 suggests he’s unlikely to reproduce his score of 164 again.
Rowan Marshall (117) and Hunter Clark (97) were the standouts of the SuperCoach-relevant Saints, while Jade Gresham relished greater midfield time with nine clearances.
At $456,400, Gresham looms as one of the breakout contenders of 2020 after being earmarked for a regular role in the Saints’ engine room by Brett Ratten.
Marshall’s ($598,700, RUC) was encouraging for those deterred by Max Gawn’s knee injury.
The Saints ruckman is $98,400 cheaper than Gawn and the first look at his partnership with Paddy Ryder showed he won’t be slowed by the arrival of the veteran big man.
Brisbane Lions duo Lachie Neale (168) and Hugh McCluggage (127) were prolific on Sunday despite their side going down against Port Adelaide, with Travis Boak (120) and Dan Houston (96) among the notable performers for the Power.

THUMBS UP: Great signs from Tom Mitchell, talling 89 points in 61 per cent gametime. At $630,000, the Brownlow medallist going to be a priority trade target for those who don’t start with him.
THUMBS DOWN: Is Max King going to be a must-have? Playing rookies are often hard to come by but key forwards can be volatile scorers.
YOUNG GUN: There was plenty to like about young Hawks defender Damon Greaves ($123,900, DEF), who averaged 58 ranking points in the VFL last season. Just be mindful James Sicily didn’t play.
POD PICK: He’s gaining more attention, but ruckman Jon Ceglar ($417,000, RUC-FWD) still only features in one per cent of teams. If he’s going to be the first-choice ruckman for Hawthorn it warrants consideration.

THUMBS UP: The big three from the Bulldogs all scored hundreds, as they often do at Marvel Stadium. Can you start Bontempelli, Dunkley and Macrae? Certainly two, if not all three.
THUMBS DOWN: Toby McLean was a premium scorer a few years ago but doesn’t hold the same appeal in a team where the scoring is largely dominated by 6-7 players.
YOUNG GUN: Aiden Bonar ($202,800, FWD-MID) confirmed why he’s in 27 per cent of teams with a score of 76. He had eight tackles.
Aiden Bonar was =6th in line for his CB involvement with 9 for the Roos. 8 tackles from 9 tackle attempts were also a highlight. #SuperCoach #AFLFantasy #2020AFLProspectus #MarshSeries

POD PICK: Caleb Daniel ($537,900, DEF) is still in just six per cent of teams. The Bulldogs play five of their first seven at Docklands where he scored 100+ in eight of his nine matches last year.

THUMBS UP: Christian Petracca will rightfully take the headlines, but could Tom McDonald be a bargain forward pick? The key-position Dee had 17 disposals and reeled in seven marks to score 139 against Adelaide.
THUMBS DOWN: SuperCoaches hoping for a big showing from Adelaide’s rookies were left disappointed. Ned McHenry (37) and Shane McAdam (23) didn’t reach 50.
YOUNG GUN: Chayce Jones (74) kicked a long-range goal and spent plenty of time in midfield for Adelaide. He’s worth a look if he performs well again in game two.
POD PICK: A $402,500 DEF-MID, Wayne Milera (103) was the chief outlet for the Crows after Laird went off at halftime. He was the only Adelaide player to hit triple figures.

THUMBS UP: Hugh Greenwood. So much for F3 being a problem position. The new Sun, a $463,100 FWD-MID, added to the options for SuperCoaches behind Lachie Whitfield and Dustin Martin with 109 points against the Cats. With only six on-field spots, we’re suddenly spoiled for choice up forward. No. 1 pick Matt Rowell (100) and FWD-MID eligible rookie Conor Budarick (74) should be in every side.
THUMBS DOWN: Patrick Dangerfield played about 60 per cent game time for 66 points. Far from a complete disaster but it’ll have a few coaches second guessing after Tom Mitchell’s score of 89 against St Kilda.
YOUNG GUN: Has to be Budarick. At a bargain $106,900 and with MID-FWD eligibility he now features in 15 per cent of teams. That number will only rise if he backs up an impressive first showing for the Suns. Don’t underestimate the importance of the MID-FWD swing.
POD PICK: Quinton Narkle was Geelong’s top scorer with 113 on a forgettable night for the Cats. Narkle played three senior games during the last home-and-away season and averaged 104.3, scoring 123, 56 and 134. A $396,600 MID, Narkle is in two per cent of teams.

THUMBS UP: Lachie Neale was the top scorer on the ground, but SuperCoaches will have been just as excited by Hugh McCluggage’s 127. At $510,700, the young Lion seems destined for a breakout campaign after averaging 94 last year. Dan Houston’s return was another big tick.
THUMBS DOWN: Not much to like from the SuperCoach rookies in this match with Brandon Starcevich (40), Mitch Georgiades (35) and Tobin Cox (24) scoring 40 or less.
YOUNG GUN: He’s not at rookie price, but Connor Rozee is flying ahead of his second AFL campaign. He’s been earmarked for time in the Power midfield and at $422,100 should be considered after scoring 108 against the Lions.
POD PICK: Charlie Dixon hasn’t had much luck with injury in recent years but moved well on Sunday. The Power big man managed 98 points which would be a great return for a forward with a price tag of $350,600. He’s in one per cent of teams.
