The Phantom’s Formguide
(Ranked in order of SuperCoach significance in 2019)
Nat Fyfe (Mid $618,100)
Superstar midfielder will take some catching as the top-ranked scorer in the game if body allows. Better than last start suggests and must be included.
Connor Blakely (Def $461,800)
Re-joined the midfield at times last season after breakout year at half-back in 2017. Likely to feature there permanently this year and should improve on 2018 numbers. Get on.
Brett Bewley (Mid $117,300)
First start. Hard-running, mature-age wingman is having a good preparation in his first pre-season at the club and could have an immediate impact if given a Round 1 debut. Looks a major SuperCoach player.
Luke Ryan (Def $489,900)
Faded late in 2018 after six SuperCoach tons in the first 12 rounds but should improve again this campaign. Looks a major player.
Griffin Logue (Def $164,300)
Resuming after no start in injury-riddled 2018 season. High draft pick is having a good preparation to date and is likely to be a big improver in 2019. Priced well.
Jesse Hogan (Fwd $498,300)
Big improver last season won plenty of admirers in the SuperCoach community after seven scores of 120 or more. Resuming on new track after late-season foot injury but should be prominent again.
Ed Langdon (Mid $447,500)
Strong runner was a big improver last season, adding 17 points to his SuperCoach average. Scored 86 points or more in 12 of his 21 games but price a concern in 2019. Keep in mind in draft format.
David Mundy (Fwd/mid $520,900)
After it fell in the previous two years, the 294-game stayer added seven points to his SuperCoach average in his 14th season in the game in 2018. Commands respect again after another 12 SuperCoach tons.
Michael Walters (Fwd $476,800)
Can feature prominently on his day and can’t be taken lightly but very hard to trust after injury – and suspension – history.
Stefan Giro ($269,800)
Elite runner is having good preparation and is another set to improve on first-up effort. Showed enough in 10 games last year to suggest he’s capable. Consider.
Andrew Brayshaw (Mid $328,600)
Ready to help fill the midfield void left by Lachie Neale and likely to be a big improver in his second season. Awkward price but keep in mind.
Rory Lobb (Fwd/ruck $411,600)
SuperCoach scoring at its best when in the ruck but he’s likely to spend more time as a stay-at-home forward at the Dockers. Regardless, must be respected after finally gaining dual-position status.
Nathan Wilson (Def $435,300)
Long-kicking right-footer is a big asset to the Dockers off half-back but needs to find consistency in his scoring to be seriously considered in SuperCoach. Capable of better.
Brad Hill (Mid $426,700)
Big ball winner on his day but it doesn’t always translate into a big SuperCoach score. Can feature but others have stronger claims.
Adam Cerra (Fwd $329,600)
Coming off impressive first-up effort, posting eight scores of 75 or more in debut season and likely to improve again in 2019. But hard to recommend at the price.
Harley Bennell (Fwd $167,700)
A lot of things would need to go right for Bennell to start in the Dockers’ Round 1 team but he has to be there if he’s right to go. A major SuperCoach player on his day but hard to trust, even at the price.
Aaron Sandilands (Ruck $529,000)
Veteran ruckman is still the No. 1 man – ahead of young Sean Darcy, who is closing quickly - but fitness is a concern. Can feature but hard to recommend in 2019.
Stephen Hill (Def $389,200)
Fitness a concern but dashing 28-year-old can feature prominently on his day. Price a big concern unless he can return to his best form which resulted in a 96-point average in 2014.
Reece Conca (Mid $392,900)
Experienced midfielder will add toughness to a young Docker engine room but no real value in SuperCoach at the price.
Brennan Cox (Fwd $349,800)
Locked down a spot in the Dockers’ best 22 as a forward last season but doesn’t yet do enough to be considered in SuperCoach. Look elsewhere.
Joel Hamling (Def $388,100)
The rock of the Docker defence can feature but not often enough to be considered in SuperCoach this season.
Alex Pearce (Def $273,500)
Bounced back from injury to play 21 games and cement his spot in 2018 but hard to recommend in SuperCoach.
MAKING THEIR CASE
Draftee Luke Valente (Mid $117,300) is a ready-made midfielder, Sean Darcy (Ruck $361,500) might take over from Sandilands at some point and Mitch Crowden (Fwd $234,000), Darcy Tucker (Mid $327,900) and Bailey Banfield (Fwd/mid $344,200) will see plenty of action after impressing in 2018. Veteran Hayden Ballantyne (Fwd $266,600) and recruit Travis Colyer (Fwd/mid $282,300) will be hoping for a chance at the feet of the new talls.
