Five ways to enjoy SuperCoach without being an expert

SuperCoach is a game you can take very seriously. Or not. In fact, knocking off a mate who spends way too much time on their team is one of the biggest thrills in the game. Here’s how to do it.

How to KFC SuperCoach

KFC SuperCoach is a game about footy. But really, it’s a game about having fun with your mates.

It’s also about winning KFC chicken (more on that later).

For many, that means becoming an expert and leading your team to the top of the fantasy mountain.

But enjoyment can be found from not being the guy who studies up on break evens or deals with the weekly stress of whether to take Brodie Grundy’s score or use the vice-captain loophole.

Because let’s be honest, who has time for that?

SuperCoach is a game for everyone and there are many ways to enjoy the fun without being a fantasy nerd. Here’s a few.

1. JOIN A SOCIAL LEAGUE

Playing SuperCoach with your mates is easily the best way to enjoy the game.

Joining a social league with colleagues or some of your best pals brings out your competitive spirit.

Playing among other casual players or a few experts makes the game all the more interesting.

Since competitions rely on head-to-head rather than total points to crown a winner, a few weeks of good luck could see you soar to the top without obsessing weekly over fantasy stats and facts.

Even one lucky week could see you beat one of the league’s experts – not much better than some workplace bragging rights, hey?

Even if you don’t get near the $50,000 grand prize, you only need one great round to have a shot at the $1750 in weekly prizes, or bonus prizes from KFC throughout the season.

In the SuperCoach site or app you can create a public or private league or join a league against other players around your skill level. You can also add the Herald Sun’s experts to your league to make up the numbers or take on Robbo head to head.

SuperCoach enjoyment comes from many places, including winning a league match against a friend who spends way more time preparing their team.

2. DO THE BARE MINIMUM EACH WEEK

Do your trades, sub in the players you need and get out.

If you’re keen there’s no limit to the amount of time you can spend in SuperCoach researching players, stats and making and reversing possible trades.

But you can stay on top of your side in less than an hour a week.

Trading out your injured or out-of-form players and making sure you have 18 when the dreaded bye rounds hit will make sure you don’t completely fall off a cliff.

The best part is it only takes a few minutes.

Note: Remember to check in before the first game of each round to make sure you have selected a captain and emergencies and don’t get caught out by any late team changes.

3. TALK THE TALK

You don’t need to be an expert to engage in SuperCoach conversation.

Between March and August, footy-mad people find a way to segue their SuperCoach scores into the casual water-cooler convo, especially on Mondays.

Being a casual player allows for you to stay in the footy conversation without completely being at sea.

Knowing Josh Dunkley scored over 200 or Stephen Coniglio’s zero was part of the weekend’s action keeps you in the know without having to calculate how the score will effect the player’s price the next week.

You can start nearly any SuperCoach conversation by talking about how well Collingwood star Brodie Grundy played on the weekend.

4. MOMENTUM IS KEY

Winning brings enjoyment and winning means your chances of earning brownie points in the SuperCoach world only increase.

Some players lose touch with their team after an initial burst of excitement over the first few weeks of the season.

However, get a few wins and the momentum begins to build.

From there, the enjoyment factor increases and you will find yourself more motivated to keep on top of your team’s output.

5. HAVE FUN

You don’t have to have the best team to have fun playing SuperCoach.

There are so many other ways to get the most out of your experience without looking to finish top of the pile.

Make a novelty team of rookies or even a side filled with players all from the one state.

Creativity means you can mess around without your weekend’s hopes hinging on your team scoring over 2300.

Even if you don’t go all in on a left-field selection strategy, picking some players just because you like the way they play, the way they look or to annoy your friends can add to the fun and banter of watching your team every weekend and talking about it during the week.

You’ll probably be much better than you think!
