Carlton kick their way into the top four after a dominant last quarter kicking eight of the last 11 goals against Port Adelaide .
It was a rollercoast for SuperCoaches, here are three big takeaways from Thursday night.
TDK GETS BETTER
Coaches would have been stoked with Tom De Koning last weekend with his season high 131 points for Carlton but he went better on Thursday night against Port Adelaide. TDK was the third highest scorer at quarter-time, the only break he wasn’t sitting on top as he piled on the hitouts finishing with 28, 12 kicks, six handballs and six tackles. He finished 57 points higher than his breakeven which will have coaches licking their lips as they head into the bye.
SKIPPER STANDS UP
When the game was in the balance at three-quarter time, someone needed to stand up from either side, insert Carlton’s skipper Patrick Cripps. Cripps kicked the opening two goals in the fourth quarter, but to go with that he scored a massive 51 points for SuperCoaches to finish on 103 points.. He might not have been in the top five possession getters on the ground but finished with 22 disposals, 11 kicks and 11 handballs with six tackles. He fell just 12 points shy of his breakeven score of 115
PORT NEED GEORGIADES
Port Adelaide’s two power forward Charlie Dixon and Todd Marshall were nowhere to be seen in at least the first three-quarters. Dixon was subbed out midway through the third quarter after just one possession (a handball) and 10 SuperCoach points while Marshall finished with six disposals and a goal and 27 SuperCoach points but for 1.1 per cent of SuperCoaches, they will be sitting back cheering after Mitch Georgiades four goal game kicked him to 101 SuperCoach points and the leading goal kicker on Thursday night, keeping the Power in the game for the first three quarters.
Recap all major talking points below.
Players and fans will see a new stricter interpretation of holding the ball in action for the first time on Thursday night.
The AFL told clubs that umpires have been instructed to reduce the amount of “reasonable time” players have to dispose of the ball when tackled.
That is set to result in a hotter whistle and more holding the ball free kicks, starting tonight.
It could be a welcome move for Power midfielder Willem Drew, who is in the top 10 for tackles in the AFL with 69 for the season. Patrick Cripps leads Carlton in that stat with 60 tackles for the season.

Port Adelaide forward Mitch Georgiades kicks the opening goal of the third quarter and his third as the Power take back the lead.
8:41PM: HALF-TIME SUPERCOACH LEADERS
Port Adelaide ruckman Ivan Soldo might be having a nervous wait but it isn’t slowing him down in the first half as he leads all players across the ground.
Carlton defender Brodie Kemp added to his first quarter score which included the first goal of the second quarter for the Blues as they hold a three-point lead at half time.
8:33PM: WALSH NOWHERE DESPITE LEADING POSITION’S
Sam Walsh might be leading the SuperCoach points in the first half but is no where to be seen even in Carlton’s top 10 as he sits at 47 per cent disposal efficiency.
Walsh absolutely butchering every disposal he gets tonight 𤮠#Supercoach #AFLPowerBlues

8:15PM: NERVOUS WAIT FOR IVAN SOLDO COACHES
A head high bump on Carlton’s Mitch McGovern will have Ivan Soldo coaches wondering whether or not they will be needing to make a trade next week.
Could the return of SuperCoach favourite Jordan Sweet be sooner than expected.
People who held Jordon Sweet look like being rewarded with a serious cash injection - not me.
— Tim Michell (@tim_michell) May 30, 2024
Soldo in trouble for a high bump. #supercoach
8:04PM: QUARTER-TIME SUPERCOACH LEADERS
Surprising youngest Jase Burgoyne sits atop the list of SuperCoach points at quarter time, sitting just shy of half way of his 108 points from the round 11 win over North Melbourne.
While Carlton defender Brodie Kemp leads the way for the Blues with 40 points while you won’t see Port’s power forwards on the list (Charlie Dixon and Todd Marshall) who have both had one possession each.
7:50PM: UMPIRE QUICK ON NEW ‘HOLDING THE BALL’ RULE.
A week is a long time in footy as Charlie Curnow was pinged for holding the ball, a week after it was called ‘play on’.

6:55PM: VOSS LOOKS AT THE POSITIVES OF NEW ‘HOLDING THE BALL’ RULE
Carlton coach Michael Voss has taken an alternative approach to the new ‘holding the ball’ rule that has plagued the AFL over the past few weeks.
“We want to be able to apply pressure on the opposition and if that means we get a few opportunities to be able to get some free kicks, we will get after it pretty hard.” Voss said.
6:40PM: TEAMS FOR POWER V BLUES
