Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has come under heavy fire from one AFL great over one act on Friday night.

The Aussie PM is a diehard Hawthorn fan and was in attendance at the MCG as his Hawks continued their scintillating run by defeating the Western Bulldogs in an elimination final.

But it was what unfolded next that caught the eye of AFL great Nathan Brown and saw him delivering both barrels to the PM.

In a segment on the Sunday Footy Show, Brown scolded the Prime Minister for being in the Hawks rooms and attempting to insert himself into the thick of the action for the good of his own image.

Tony Jones got the ball rolling as he stated: “These are people that try to insert themselves into finals football when maybe they should stay in their lane.”

That’s when Brown takes over.

“I feel like the Prime Minister, this was for the good of himself going into the Hawthorn rooms. This sickens me,” Brown said.

“Anthony Albanese, he had a look at the polls and he thought Peter Dutton is closing, he’s in front there’s a gap. He feels like ‘I need to look like a common man. I’m going to go into the Hawthorn rooms’.

“Give it up, Albo, no-one is buying it.”

It’s not the first time this year the Prime Minister has come under fire from the Sunday Footy Show panel after Jones scolded him for a similar act earlier in the season.

After Hawthorn pulled off a five-point upset victory over St Kilda in Launceston, Albanese joined the players as they belted out the team song following the win.

Jones was scathing of Albanese’s behaviour when taking a swipe at the Member for Grayndler.

“I was almost sick yesterday when I looked at the Hawthorn club song and there front and centre was the Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese,” Jones said.

“He has no interest in AFL. And there he was there … he’s got the scarf around … just go away.

“Seriously, when will Prime Minister’s learn to stay in your lane and that’s normally in the House of Representatives.”

Jones went on to say: “Albo, you’re not an AFL fan, stay away.”

Albanese will have another chance next weekend to get around his Hawks when they travel to Adelaide for a semi-final clash against Port Adelaide.

The Hawks proved far too strong against the Western Bulldogs as they secured the 14.15 (99) to 9.8 (62) victory, while the Power fell apart against Geelong.

The loss for the Power amplifies the pressure on coach Ken Hinkley who may face the axe if the club are eliminated in straight sets next weekend.

The winner of the contest will advance into the preliminary final where the Sydney Swans will be waiting after they produced a stunning come from behind win in arguably the game of the year on Saturday.
