West Adelaide captain Ryan Ferguson’s status for the preliminary final clash against North Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Sunday remains a mystery.

Ferguson was named on a half back flank for the Bloods yesterday but a decision on whether he returns from severe concussion has been delayed until tomorrow when coach Andrew Collins consults the medical staff.

The Bloods are desperate to regain the services of the inspirational leader after he missed the second semi-final loss to Norwood. However, his welfare is the priority for the club following a serious knock in the qualifying final win over Woodville-West Torrens.

‘’It was his second concussion for the year,’’ Collins said. ‘’We will give him every opportunity to prove himself and will make the call on Saturday morning after discussions with the doctor.

‘’As we know, we are a different side with him in.’’

The absence of Ferguson had a huge influence on the Bloods on Sunday when they succumbed to the Redlegs in meek fashion.

‘’Ferg surprised me when he trained fully on Tuesday — that is Ferg.’’

The Bloods also named Josh Schiller, Peter Nelson, Nick Homburg, Tom Keough and Dean Poynton in a 23-man squad.

Aaron Fielke was ruled out because of a shoulder problem, Michael Still is sidelined after damaging his thumb and Chris Bonney and Brad Kirk were omitted.

While doubt hangs over the availability of the Bloods’ defensive leader, there is also uncertainty on the role of gun Roosters forward Lewis Johnston.

He was named at full forward in a 23-man squad yesterday but he must still receive the all clear from the Crows to front the Bloods.

Roosters coach Josh Francou is confident Johnston will be in his line-up after the classy goalkicker negotiated a running session without discomfort on Wednesday.

‘’He did some straight line running without pain and is optimistic he will play,’’ Francou said.

Ben Williams was also added to the 21 who conquered the Eagles.
