Six SA-based players have been picked to feature in the bushfire relief game at Marvel Stadium next Friday.
Rory Sloane (Victoria), Rory Laird, Brodie Smith and Taylor Walker (All-Stars) were chosen on Tuesday to line up from Adelaide, while Robbie Gray (Victoria) and Scott Lycett (All-Stars) were named as Port Adelaide’s representatives.
Power senior assistant Michael Voss will be part of the All-Stars coaching panel.
Clubs were initially only going to have a maximum of three players each in the 27-man squads, but that idea was scrapped by coaches Damien Hardwick (Victoria) and John Longmire (All-Stars) to ensure more of the game’s biggest names would be selected.
Last year’s grand finalists Richmond and GWS (six each) lead the way but each AFL team has at least one player involved.
Patrick Dangerfield, Dustin Martin and Scott Pendlebury headline the Big V outfit, while Nat Fyfe, Brodie Grundy and Patrick Cripps are among the All-Stars’ biggest names.
The game will raise funds for local footy clubs and families in bushfire-affected areas via a Community Relief Fund, which the league has set up.
Team captains will be named closer to the match.
It will be the first Victoria versus the All-stars contest since 2008.
That match was at the MCG and featured six Crows (Graham Johncock, Ben Rutten, Daniel Talia, Nathan Bock, Andrew McLeod, Brett Burton) and two Power players (Peter Burgoyne, Shaun Burgoyne, Daniel Motlop, Kane Cornes).
