GLENELG Football Club is searching for a new chief executive after the shock resignation of Rob Nelson.

Nelson, who oversaw the club's lighting project, tended his resignation on Wednesday after discussions with president Nick Chigwidden.

He has given "family reasons" for his decision to pursue other opportunities.

Nelson's untimely departure - with Glenelg sitting bottom of the SANFL premiership ladder with just three wins - has left Chigwidden and fellow board member and finance director David Whelan filling the void until the club can find a full-time replacement.

"It's disappointing but we understand Rob's decision," Chigwidden said.

"We thank Rob for his significant contribution to the club during his three years here, where he oversaw our large sports lighting project.

"We'll get to work to fill his role and appoint the right person at the appropriate time."

The struggling Tigers could also be looking for a new coach at the end of the season, with Kris Massie under pressure to retain his job after failing to land Glenelg a win since April 27.
