Pure Footy - episode 3 2022

Some AFL players don’t get the recognition they deserve.

Three rounds into the 2022 season there are players performing key roles who are yet be acknowledged by the wider footy world.

Champion Data analyst Daniel Hoyne said on a new episode of Pure Footy that second-year Bomber Archie Perkins is one Essendon player who can hold his head up, ranking as the sixth-best general forward in the competition.

“He’s winning 14 disposals, which for his position at his age is a massive tick – 14 disposals a game across that half-forward area is quite difficult to do, so as a result he’s rated as the sixth-best small forward in the competition.”

Saint Jack Sinclair is the eighth-best midfielder in the AFL under Champion Data rankings, Giant Isaac Cumming is the best kick in the competition and Hawk Dylan Moore is rated No.1 for score involvements for his position.

Hoyne said Marc Pittonet was a surprise key to Carlton’s unbeaten start – ranking No.1 among ruckmen for score involvements – and it’s time fans and pundits gave Isaac Quaynor more credit.

“He’s so suited to the way Craig McRae wants to play,” he said.

“His ability to win the ball back off the opposition – he’s No.1 for intercept possessions for his position this year – and then when he wins it, his ability to be able to use it is phenomenal so far.

“He’s the sixth-highest rated kick in the competition this year, his kick rating is plus 12 per cent, so he’s so damaging behind centre.”
