The disappointing seasons of both South Australian clubs, who missed the finals for the second-year running, have been further highlighted by just two players making this year’s 40-man All-Australian squad.
After an outstanding return to the midfield in 2019, Port Adelaide star Travis Boak, who made the AFL’s team of the year in 2013 and 2014, has been included after averaging 30 disposals and 15 contested possessions per game.
At West Lakes, defender Daniel Talia is in line for his third All-Australian jacket after another terrific campaign in an under-siege Adelaide defence.

Talia, who was third-ranked player in the competition for total spoils, defended a competition-high 103 defensive one-on-ones in 2019.
West Coast dominate this year’s squad, boasting a league-best seven players, with Shannon Hurn, Andrew Gaff, Jeremy McGovern, Brad Sheppard, Luke Shuey, Elliot Yeo and Jack Darling all receiving a nod.
West Coast captain Hurn is one of three South Australians along with Brisbane midfield gun Lachie Neale and Collingwood ruckman Brodie Grundy.
The final 22 will be announced on Wednesday night and there are 20 players vying for a place in their first All-Australian team, while Geelong’s Gary Ablett is a chance to make it for a record ninth time.
Essendon is the only top-eight team not to feature, joining St Kilda and Gold Coast without representation.
Crow Rory Laird and the Power’s Robbie Gray earned All-Australian honours last year with Port captain Tom Jonas included in the squad.
