PORT Adelaide fans’ pain after Saturday’s elimination final loss has been felt in the US.

PORT Adelaide has once again helped take our indigenous game to the United States, with sports channel ESPN giving their unique take on the West Coast goal that put a dramatic end to Saturday’s enthralling extra-time elimination final.

SportsCenter host Scott Van Pelt grabbed our attention earlier this season with his commentary of the thrilling Sydney-Essendon clash at the SCG, as well as the incredible Paddy Ryder-Robbie Gray ruckwork combination that delivered Port Adelaide victory in the dying seconds against the Saints in Round 19.

This time, talking over highlights of the final moments of Saturday night’s elimination final, he explained proceedings to viewers in the US — and even gave those watching Down Under a special shout-out.

“There’s 27 seconds left in extra time,” Van Pelt says.

“Now there’s a foul against the West Coast Eagles ... Port Adelaide is, they’re apoplectic.

“I want to say hi to all our friends in Australia who run these segments of ours on the news, making fun of us not understanding (what’s going on).

“I understand what happened right there (vision of goal). That’s Luke Shuey and that’s worth six (points).

“That’s a walk-off.

“That’s a walk-off on a dodgy call.”

Earlier this year, Van Pelt was in awe of Ryder’s stunning tap (or tip) to Gray, giving him three votes for his efforts.

“Good tip. Look at that tip,” he said.

He then raised an interesting point about the AFL’s lack of goal-line technology.

“How do we know (Gray’s kick was a goal)? This guy (the goal umpire) is right there I guess,” he said.

“Can we get better angles? We are trying our best here to understand what is going on.

“What we need is like a goal-line camera. I need a down the line shot so I can tell people if that was (a goal) or not.”
