Norwood veteran Bryce Campbell returns to action in reserves

NORWOOD football operations manager Mark Ross believes veteran Bryce Campbell's comeback from an 20-month injury lay-off can inspire the side's push for back-to-back flags.

NORWOOD football operations manager Mark Ross believes veteran Bryce Campbell's comeback from an 20-month injury lay-off can inspire the side's push for back-to-back flags.

Campbell, 28, gathered 27 disposals and was second best on ground in the reserves in his first match since rupturing his anterior crucial ligament in the 2011 second semi-final.

The midfielder will likely play a month of football before being considered for league selection but Ross says the veteran's perseverance through setbacks has already had an uplifting effect on the group.

Campbell has three times attempted to return from the injury but suffered hamstring problems.

"If you talk to guys like Brett Zorzi and Jace Bode, they just can't wait to play footy with him (Campbell) again,'' Ross said.

"He's a quality bloke and a quality player and he has been through a lot.

"That's what footy club are all about and what teams are all about."

The Redlegs are set to regain a host of personnel over the next month.

Premiership midfielder Tim Webber resumed from an ankle injury against South, while Michael Newton is a chance to be given the all-clear to begin his comeback from a knee reconstruction this week.

Michael Chippendale is still listed as being about a month away from returning from a serious elbow injury.

Gun juniors James Aish and Trent Dumont will continue to juggle Norwood and state under-18 commitments for the next few weeks.

Luke Wilson is listed as one to two weeks away with an ankle injury, but hard-nosed midfielder Dylan Reinbrecht has been ruled out for the season with a shoulder injury.
