Evergreen utility Mark Blicavs will play into a 14th season after signing a one-year contact extension, putting him in the frame to become the latest Geelong player to reach the 300-game milestone.
Blicavs, 34, has been at his versatile best in 2025, filling the Cats’ ruck void with aplomb when Rhys Stanley went down and also featuring on a wing and in defence this season.
He had expressed his desire to play on beyond 2025 in March, and Geelong footy boss Andrew Mackie said it was a no-brainer to extend his stay.
“Blitz is an incredibly flexible and a dependable teammate and is an outstanding leader for our football program,” Mackie said.
“It was an easy decision for us to extend Blitz’ contract, he remains key piece for us and will continue to be a key driver of high standards and team success.”
Blicavs has performed strongly this season, averaging 13.3 disposals, 11.6 hit-outs, 3.9 marks and 90.2 SuperCoach points per game.
The running machine was an All-Australian and premiership player in 2022 and has won two Carji Greeves Medals in 2015 and 2018 across a remarkable career since the Cats took a punt on the former middle distance runner as a Category B rookie in 2012.
Ollie Dempsey is the most high-profile Cat who remains unsigned but is expected to recommit to the club.
Experienced Cats Tom Atkins, Cam Guthrie, Jed Bews, Mitch Duncan and Rhys Stanley are also uncontracted at the end of the season.
