He’s the son of an AFL gun, and North Adelaide’s Ben Jarman, 17, is making his own mark on the SA football landscape.

Jarman, son of Adelaide Crows premiership hero Darren, collected 28 touches, 12 centre clearances, six inside 50s and a goal during a best-on-round performance in the Roosters’ under-18 clash against Woodville-West Torrens on the weekend.

The performance won him this week’s nomination for the competition’s most valuable player award, the equivalent of the AFL’s rising star award.

North Adelaide senior coach Ken McGregor said Jarman had a bright future and was a potential AFL draftee.

“Obviously he comes from pretty talented stock,” McGregor said. “He’s got all the elite skills and is a very good user of the ball.”

“He’s definitely a talent for the future, not just for the SANFL, but even higher.”

The Crows have identified Ben as a possible father-son pick and have had him on their radar for some time.

But Adelaide can expect competition from Victorian powerhouse Hawthorn.

Darren, now 48, played more than 100 games for both clubs, making Ben eligible for father-son status with either.

Darren played 109 games for the Hawks from 1991-95, winning one premiership, before playing 121 for Adelaide from 1996-2001.

The midfielder-forward kicked 11 goals in the Crows’ two grand final victories - six against St Kilda in 1997 and five against North Melbourne in the 1998 triumph.

Ben Jarman was part of an SA team which won last year’s national under-16 title.
