Back-to-back reigning premier Richmond will try to bounce back from its shock loss to St Kilda when it takes on Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Thursday night.
The Giants, who, like Sydney, flew in to Melbourne on Tuesday night at short notice will play a second-straight match at the MCG against the ladder-topping Demons next Saturday.
Other Saturday clashes include the Crows hosting Brisbane at Adelaide Oval and Fremantle locking horns with Carlton at Optus Stadium at night.
The remaining two games on Sunday involve Collingwood and St Kilda going head to head at the MCG, and the Western Bulldogs playing North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium.
AFL fixture boss Travis Auld said the coronavirus pandemic continues to provide headaches.
“We thank everyone in the game for their understanding as we finalised the dates, times and locations for each match of Round 16,” Auld said.
“It is great to be able to take a big match up to regional Victoria and we encourage footy fans from all around the state to head to Geelong and support the contest between the Swans and the Eagles at GMHBA Stadium.
“On behalf of the AFL, we thank the Victorian State Government for their continued support of footy and the 2021 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.”
