There was a further eight players selected from the SANFL on the second night of the AFL National Draft, making it 11 in total from SA.
It was no shock Redlegs midfielder Dylan Stephens was the first player taken but the surprise of the first night was was the position with the Swans jumping the Crows at No. 5.
Eagles excitement machine Kysaiah Pickett, the only other South Australian prospect in attendance at the event, was the next Croweater taken with Melbourne swooping, as expected, with its second selection at No. 12.
West Adelaide’s Will Day made it three SANFL products in the first 13 picks after Hawthorn came calling with its first selection, one place ahead of the Power, who were very keen on the smart, rebounding defender.
On the second night, Harry Schoenberg (Adelaide, No. 24), Port Adelaide father-son selection Jackson Mead (No. 25) and Will Gould (Sydney, No. 26) found AFL homes early as expected, while Norwood’s Cam Taheny (Geelong, No. 50) was made to wait a little longer than his talent would suggest.
Eagles goalkicker Josh Morris was also snapped up, joing Day at the Hawks at pick No. 57.
But the biggest surprises of the night came in successive selections late in the fourth round. At No. 61, Gold Coast took a punt on Adelaide SANFL development player Jy Farrar, while the Dockers swooped on Eagles wingman Michael Frederick, the twin of Power rookie Martin, who came from the clouds to be drafted.
