SF2: JOEL SELWOOD v GARY ABLETT
RALPHY: We have come this far because Gaz and Selwood are champions of the game but there can only be one winner. And it’s Gazza. 15 games but maybe seven or eight best-afields on them. I can’t see Selwood getting to 25 votes even if the Cats did win 17 games.
ROBBO: Haven’t I made myself clear? Selwood had six rippers early, had a flat spot midyear then came home like a freight train. He gets it in close, he kicks goals, the umpires love him, what not to like? There is a reason he is the favourite to take Charlie home.
RALPHY: I know David Swallow and Dion Prestia might usually take some votes off a player with their amazing seasons but this is Gaz. People don’t steal votes off him. History shows when he dominates a game he gets three and even when he doesn’t dominate he can still sneak votes. It’s going to be hard to win it, but he beats players like Ian Stewart and Haydn Bunton in terms of missing the most games in history yet still winning the Bronwlow.
ROBBO: Selwood might not have has his best year — he said this week last year was better — but the Brownlow isn’t about consistency. It’s about polling votes. He could have 12 votes from the first six games and then he only needs a dozen votes from there on in.
RALPHY: It would be fitting for Selwood to win a Brownlow. We love him and the way he plays his footy. It’s just that “Triple-Brownlow Medallist Gary Ablett” has a better ring to it.
