Fremantle’s Ryan Nyhuis suspended for three weeks for slam tackle on Port Adelaide star Robbie Gray
FREMANTLE’S Ryan Nyhuis will pay the price for his slam-tackle which concussed Port Adelaide’s Robbie Gray, with the Docker saying he never meant to hurt the Port star.
FREMANTLE’S Ryan Nyhuis will miss three matches for the slam-tackle which concussed Port Adelaide’s Robbie Gray on Sunday.
Nyhuis, 21, pleaded guilty at the AFL tribunal tonight after his dangerous tackle on Gray was graded as careless conduct and severe impact.
Gray was knocked out in the incident and played no further part in the match as the Dockers upset the injury-ravaged Power by nine points in Perth.

A remorseful Nyhuis told the Tribunal he had no intention of hurting the Port superstar.
The AFL’s legal counsel told the Tribunal he wanted a three-week ban, with the Dockers in agreement over the penalty.
The sickening incident from Sunday’s clash upset Port Adelaide officials, with coach Ken Hinkley saying post-game the tackle was “exactly what you’re not supposed to do”.
Gray’s left arm was pinned by Nyhuis when the Power superstar was disposed in a tackle and up-ended into the turf over the boundary line.
Gray was subsequently stretchered into the rooms for medical attention.
Nyhuis would have been dealt a two-match ban if it was classified as high contact under the match review system.
And Adelaide star midfielder Bryce Gibbs successfully challenged a $2000 fine for his early off-the-ball bump on Geelong captain Joel Selwood.
Gibbs came under scrutiny after Selwood fell to the ground after receiving contact from the Crow on Thursday night. Christian had graded it as low impact.
“We deemed it as an election to bump. He made head high contact to Joel Selwood and we graded in that manner,” Christian said.
“He (Gibbs) has got a right like every player and every club to go to the tribunal.”
Carlton utility Jed Lamb was hit with a one-match ban for making unnecessary contact to the eye region of Saint Jade Gresham on Friday night.
Earlier this week Collingwood’s Levi Greenwood was dealt a $2000 fine for his late bump on Eagle Jeremy McGovern on Sunday.
Greenwood made high contact to McGover’s face, forcing the star defender off the field clutching his face in West Coast’s in over the Magpies.
Hawthorn playmaker Jaeger O’Meara was fined $1500 for striking Lion Mitch Robinson.
