Food and drinks at Adelaide Oval will be reduced for the rest of the 2020 AFL season and last until 2021

AFL action is returning to Adelaide Oval and punters have received another boost to their hip pocket.
Adelaide will host St Kilda on Monday night, with over 20,000 fans set to attend, and ahead of the match the Oval’s Stadium Management Authority will reduce prices across a range of its best-selling food and beverage items.
This will include beer, pies, soft drink, hot chips and water.
SMA chief executive Andrew Daniels said the new pricing will last for the rest of the 2020 AFL season and for all of next year’s season as well.
It will also be in place for the summer of cricket.
Mr Daniels said it was about helping South Australian fans.
“By doing so (reducing the prices), we are taking a financial hit,” he said.
“It means Adelaide Oval’s own economic recovery – and that of local football and cricket – will take longer after being completely shut down during the height of the crisis.
“But fans are absolutely central to that. We want them to come flooding back to the games and events they love and we think our new pricing will make it easier for them to do so.
“We also recognise the important role Adelaide Oval plays in the vibrancy of the city and we want to do our bit in helping South Australia’s ongoing recovery.”
The Oval has come under constant fire for the prices of some of its food and beverage offering.
Under its previous pricing model Oval patrons would have paid $9.60 for a full-strength pint of beer - $1 more than at the MCG and second to only the Gabba.
A meat pie was $5.80, the most expensive in the nation.
But under the SMA’s new price model a full-strength pint of beer is now $8.50 and a pie $4.50.
Last week the State Government announced it would fund the Footy Express for the rest of the season, and the Adelaide City Council confirmed it will slash carparking fees by 50 per cent, meaning some supporters could pay as little as $4 to attend the footy.
Adelaide Oval is expected to get a run of games in future fixture models by the AFL, starting with next weekend when the Crows and Port Adelaide both play at home.
