Eddie Betts will be traded to Carlton from Adelaide on a one-year deal

Eddie Betts is poised to again become a Carlton player in coming days. Find out the exclusive details of the trade which will seal a homecoming for the veteran small forward.

Day three trade moves

Eddie Betts will be a Carlton player within days on a one-year deal that is expected to see the Blues part with pick 48 to regain their former cult hero.

Carlton and Adelaide have agreed to terms on the deal which will see Betts sign a contract that Adelaide will contribute towards financially.

Betts is expected to sign a deal that will see him reap over $400,000, of which Adelaide will contribute around six figures.

They will secure pick 48, with Betts accepting of the single-season offer despite ideally wanting a two-year commitment.

He had another year to run on his Adelaide contract and was set to be paid as much as $600,000 by the Crows.

But they have done the right thing by Betts, who is keen to get back to Melbourne to be closer to his partner’s family in Wangaratta.

The couple also have four young children and are keen to set themselves up in Melbourne after his star-studded career, which has included successful stints at both the Blues and Adelaide.

Betts contentiously walked out as a free agent on Carlton six seasons ago as they instead handed a lucrative contract to Dale Thomas.

Now at 32 there is a realisation that Betts is no longer the star he once was, but the Blues said this week he would be great from a cultural standpoint given his leadership and popularity.

He kicked 37 goals this season but many of them came in two games against Gold Coast.

But he believes he can reinvigorate himself at the Blues, and from their point of view it is a low-risk investment.

If he fails to fire in a forward line that will likely include Jack Martin and Tom Papley they have not made a multi-year investment into him.
