Crows forward Josh Jenkins says he’s unsure if he’ll line-up against the Gold Coast Suns this week

Adelaide Crows forward Josh Jenkins said he shouldn’t be alone in feeling unsure whether or not he’ll line up against the Gold Coast.

Adelaide Crows forward Josh Jenkins said he shouldn’t be alone in feeling unsure whether or not he’ll line up against the Gold Coast.

Jenkins has kicked just four goals in 2019 while fellow forward Taylor Walker and Tom Lynch have just three each as the Crows forwards have struggle to score.

“I sit here not certain I’ll be playing this week and that’s not a read I get off anyone I’m just very understanding of the situation,’’ Jenkins said on SEN radio.

“I understand you can’t keep going into games and getting the same result, a result you’re not happy with, Bryce (Gibbs) felt that wrath and I felt that wrath two years ago.

Jenkins said while time away from the AFL can often help players recover form quickly, he was determined to help get the Crows season back on track on Sunday.

“I’ve certainly been in that situation and sometimes it can be a great circuit breaker,’’ Jenkins added..

“Do I want to play in the SANFL this week? No, I want to help turn things around.

“Sometimes it can be a great circuit breaker for someone or individuals who are struggling with form to get away from the spotlight of the AFL footy and try and resurrect things.

“I still think I have enough to offer the team to play this week but you have to earn your position.

“There should be 12 guys who feel the same as I do, there’s a lot of us who aren’t playing good enough footy and if we do feel comfortable and do think, nah, I just deserve a spot for what I’ve done in the past then that’s fool’s gold,’’ he said.

Jenkins said while there has been a lot of speculation regarding where the Crows issues have been having just one win from their first three games it was more than just one area of their game plan.

“(It’s been a) difficult week but one bought about by our own doing, that’s the caper we live in’’ Jenkins said.

“I believe in control what you can control, I’m not responsible for the delivery of the footy, I’m responsible for providing options. I/we didn’t do enough of that, we had enough quality opportunities to probably win the game.

“I missed two shots on goal that I consider 49 out of 50 shots, so I’m more concerned with those sort of things than not getting enough chances,’’ he said.

Jenkins said there was no indication from within the club if coach Don Pyke would make more big name changes this weekend.

“I’m not privy to coaches meetings and how they want to pursue or attack the future,’’ Jenkins said.

“Form is temporary good or bad, when you’re in good form you’re only 10 minutes away from dropping out of form and vice versa.

“The only real answer is for us to continue to attack the things we want to go after at training or games.

“We had an opportunity yesterday to train hard and we have another opportunity tomorrow to go after the things we want to and hope or expect that things will change and we’ll see different results on Sunday against Gold Coast,’’ he said.

Despite calls for Jenkins to take on more game time in the ruck he thought it was important for the Crows to stick by youngster Reilly O’Brien.

“We’ll move towards what this week(end) looks like tomorrow,’’ Jenkins said.

“Jarrod Witts would be a difficult task, but Riley O’Brien’s aerobic fitness is even stronger than mine.

“You can’t get experience standing in the street, on the weekend he played against one of the best ruckmen in the past decade and I think he earnt another chance to continue on and get better,’’ he said.
